Fitzmorris' goals lift Caledonia to 6-2 victory over St. Catharines
Mitchell Fitzmorris had two goals to lead the Caledonia Corvairs to a 6-2 victory over the St. Catharines Falcons.
Fitzmorris' tallies came at 1:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia and 19:52 into the first to make the score 3-1 Caledonia.The win gave Caledonia a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
The Corvairs forced Falcons' goaltenders to work in net, firing 51 shots and forcing 45 saves. Joel Horodziejczyk made 32 stops and Cameron Gray made 13. Caledonia was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.
Caledonia additionally got points from Matt McCartney, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Corey Pawley, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Tait Seguin, who also had one goal and one assist, and Matthew Hore, who also tallied one goal and two assists. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Daniel Volpe, who had two and Blake Luscombe, Jordan Brown, and Tyler Hill, who contributed one each.
St. Catharines was helped by Noah Perlic, who registered one goal. Perlic scored 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam McMaster picked up the assist. St. Catharines also got points from McMaster, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Justin Felker, who had one and Owen Green, who had two.
Mark Sinclair made 15 saves for the Corvairs on 17 shots. Caledonia incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Falcons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
