PBA is going into the 2022 season with a very young talented roster. Twenty- six players will complete the varsity team this spring with only a couple of them with any college games under their belt. “We have a lot of talent this year on both sides of the field.  If we can throw strike one and take care of the baseball on defence, we will be very tough to play against.” Head coach, Todd Hubka continued, “We are very deep on the mound and in the field and hopefully we’ll keep developing throughout the spring and will be playing for another championship in May.”

The Dawgs come into this season very excited on the depth of this year’s program, with six players seeing time in the outfield: Sammy Hilgersom (Lethbridge AB), Aaron Charchuk (Hines Creek AB), Dymitri Pavlove (Calgary AB), Aidan Gehring (Red Deer AB), Hayden Roland (Calgary AB) and Freshman Josh Kabayama (Lethbridge AB). Kabayama will lead the outfield and will also be an impact bat for PBA at the top of their line-up. “Kabayama has multiple tools that will only get better with live AB’s and reps in the outfield.” Stated coach Hubka.

On the infield the Dawgs are very talented with players that can play multiple positions. “Our infield has a chance to be one of the best in programs history,” proclaimed coach Hubka. These players include Logan King (Lethbridge AB), Zaden Wake (Winnipeg MB), Owen Nychyk (Winnipeg, MB), and first baseman Carter Claerhout (Red Deer, AB) who will also be hitting in the middle of the Dawgs line-up. The Infield will be led by Freshman Shortstop Nick Gravel (Fall River, NS). Gravel, will be getting most of the work at short but can play all infield positions. Gravel will be featured at the top of the batting line-up this season for PBA.

Behind the plate we have two freshman who will be splitting time Alex Ozar (Prince Albert SK) and Teigen Parenteau (Lethbridge AB). This year PBA will have a unique situation with Kevin Burnett who will see time at the DH spot in the lineup as he had some arm problems this past fall.

The Dawgs’ pitching staff will be very deep this year, but also very young: Kade Kahlert (Red Deer Ab), Ty Schaffer (Cardston AB), Max Benton (Clyde River PEI), Chris Thomson (Calgary AB), Jackson Wilson (Fredericton NB) and Aidan Newton (Calgary AB). This group of players will be fighting for starting jobs in the preseason. The two ptichers that don’t make the starting rotation will help bolster PBA’s bullpen. The bullpen will have some quality arms with each of them bringing something different. The bullpen this year includes Liam Bilodeau-Minty (Edmonton AB), Tate Pearce (Lethbridge AB), Zach Evanochko (Winnipeg MB), Noah Lebleu (Lethbridge AB), Colby Snider (Bellevue AB), and Ethan Smith (Coaldale AB).

PBA begins their season at home with a set of double headers against the University of Calgary Dinos on April 2nd, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
