LIMA LOCOS  14  GRAND LAKE MARINERS  1  -  FINAL/7 Innings

SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos turned in an impressive performance on its field and during the game making quick work of the Grand Lake Mariners. The 14-1 victory at Simmons Field was the Locos sixth straight win.

 

It rained throughout most of the morning in the area surrounding Simmons Field in downtown Lima. Once the weather cleared up, the grounds crew went to work and the game was able to begin on schedule.

 

The Locos (12-8) came out blazing jumping out to an early lead on its way to a run-rule victory.

 

Lima scored four times in the second inning starting with a bases loaded walk issued to Bo Shinkle (Kent State). Liam Richards (Yavapai College) scored from third base on a wild pitch.

 

Justin Gorksi (Miami Unversity) reached on an infield single driving in a pair of runs as Brice Estep (Coastal Carolina) and Shinkle both crossed the pay station.

 

The Locos put the finishing touches on the mercy-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sebastian Alexander (Coastal Carolina) cleared the bases with a three-run triple. 

 

Alexander reached base three times and Gorski went 2-for-4 at the plate with each of them driving in four RBIs.

 

Chase Jarnagin (College of Charleston) got the start for the Locos improving his record to 3-1 on the season. Jarnagin gave up just one unearned run while scattering five hits.

The Mariners (5-15) avoided the shutout scoring an unearned run in the sixth inning. 

 

Cameron Bryant (College of the Holy Cross transfer) and Andrew Kell (Salisbury University) reached on back-to-back singles advancing into scoring position on a ground out to second base. A simple throw back to the pitcher got away from Jarnagin allowing Bryant to race home from third for the run.

 

The series shifts back to Celina for the finale with the Locos looking for the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm at Montgomery Field.

 

 

HAMILTON JOES  12  SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS  2  -  FINAL/7 Innings

FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes continued its winning ways beating the Southern Ohio Copperheads 12-2 at the Foundation Field.

 

The game was delayed 30 minutes allowing the weather to clear up around the area. The Joes wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 advantage.

 

Hamilton (15-5) struck quickly in the first inning with a two-run single by Ryan Novak (Miami University) and a two-double from Mitchel Szymczak (Lake Erie College). 

 

Bryce Habuda (Pasco Hernando CC) drove in Szymczak with a triple and then scored on an RBI ground out by Eli Kieser (Ball State).

 

Connor Hutchinson (Ball State) earned his first victory of the season for the Joes. Hutchinson went five innings giving up just two runs on five hits striking out five batters.

 

Carson Brewer (Bellarmine University) closed it out throwing two shutout innings preserving Hamilton’s fourth consecutive win. 

 

The Copperheads (8-12) were only able to come up with six hits led by Case Sullivan (Valparaiso) going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

 

The first place Joes go for the series sweep as the finale moves to Bob Wren Stadium on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm.

 

 

MUSKEGON CLIPPERS  7  MICHIGAN MONARCHS  3

MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers won its third straight game clinching the series win with a 7-3 victory over the Michigan Monarchs.

 

The Clippers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning breaking a 3-3 tie. 

 

Carson McCoy (Patrick Henry CC) led off with a single advancing to third base after a pair of ground ball outs. McCoy scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch with Gabe Bonemer (Calvin University) at the plate.

 

In the seventh inning, Muskegon scored three runs ultimately putting the game out of reach. 

 

It was McCoy again in the middle of the action driving in Preston Leon (University of Minnesota) with a sacrifice fly. Justin Osterhouse (Purdue Fort Wayne) drove in a pair of insurance runs with a one-out base hit.

 

Reginald Sharpe (Michigan State) went 3-for-5 for the Monarchs scoring two runs. Kimo Fukofuka (San Jose State transfer) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

 

The Clippers (11-6) will go for the series sweep on Sunday but will have to do on the road. The Monarchs (8-12) will host at Spring Arbor University’s Burbridge Field with the game scheduled for 4:05pm.
