April 13, 2022, Mississauga, ON – ….  The Ontario Junior Hockey League today announced its 2021-22 OJHL First and Second All-Prospect Teams. The teams were selected by a committee of OJHL general managers and media members.

The 2021-22 OJHL First Team All Prospects are:

Forwards

Giacomo Martino, St. Michael’s Buzzers. The 16-year-old had 54 points (24 goals/30 assists) in 54 games for the Buzzers this season. Five of his goals came on the power play. He scored four game-winners. Martino committed to the NCAA Division I Northeastern University Huskies in Boston, MA for 2023. The Toronto resident joined the Buzzers from the Vaughan Kings AAA program this season. He had 22 goals and seven assists in 34 games with the Kings’ U15 squad in 2019-20. His brother, Ayrton, who played at St. Mike’s for two seasons (2018-20), was a third-round selection of the Dallas Stars in the 2021 NHL Draft. Ayrton plays for NCAA Division 1 Clarkson in Potsdam, NY.

Easton Wainwright, Brantford 99ers. The diminutive forward from Mount Hope led the 99ers in scoring this season, tallying a point-per-game (51 in 51). He didn’t turn 17 until Jan. 19. The next highest-scoring Brantford player had 31 points. Wainwright’s 28 goals included eight on the power play, four while shorthanded and three game-winners. Wainwright committed to join the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League in December and played for both teams in the second half of the season. He has 10 points in 21 games with the Sting this year. Wainwright was a ninth-round (172nd overall) Sting pick in the 2021 OHL U16 draft.

Lucas Buzziol, Milton Menace. Buzziol was one of four Ontario Junior Hockey League players on NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings for the 2022 NHL Draft released in January. The centre from Mississauga fit right in on the high-flying Menace roster this season, his first in junior hockey. Buzziol, who turns 18 on May 4, scored 20 goals and had 29 assists in 51 OJHL games. He had five game-winning goals. Buzziol was an AP with Milton from the Vaughan Kings U16 team in 2019-20, picking up an assist in his only game. He was picked in the sixth round of the 2020 OHL U16 draft by Mississauga.

Defencemen

Jack Sparkes, St. Michael’s Buzzers. At 6 feet and 7.75 inches and 231 pounds, the defenceman is possibly the biggest player in the 21-team OJHL. He committed to Michigan State for 2023 in November. Sparkes scored five goals and assisted on seven others in 37 games this season. The big defenceman was one of four Ontario Junior Hockey League players on NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings for the 2022 NHL Draft released in January. The 18-year-old from Toronto joined the Buzzers from the St. Michael’s College School and Don Mills Flyers U18 teams. He previously played for the Toronto Titans U16 squad. Sparkes was a third-round pick of Barrie in the 2020 OHL U18 draft.

Alessandro Petreccia, Milton Menace. Petriccia made the jump from U16 hockey in 2019-20 to the OJHL in 2021-22 appear effortless. The former Don Mills Flyer from Woodbridge had six goals and 18 assists in 48 games with the Menace. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder picked up 78 penalty minutes for a very physical Milton squad. Petreccia and Menace teammates Lucas Buzziol and Cole Semeniuk were selected to play in the OJHL InStat Prospects Game.

Goaltender

Ethan Morrow, Wellington Dukes. Playing goal at the Jr. A level as a 16-year-old can be a daunting task. Not so for Ethan Morrow. The Kingston product split starts with veteran Matt Dunsmoor for the Dukes this season. Morrow went 18-7-0 while recording two shutouts, a 2.47 GAA and .916 save percentage. The Sudbury Wolves’ sixth-round pick in the 2020 OHL U16 draft, Morrow played for the Kingston Junior Gaels U16 squad in 2019-20. The 6-foot, 170-pounder turned 17 on Feb. 4.

The OJHL is announcing its 2021-22 award winners throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs.
