The Mystic Schooners are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization and member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
The NECBL consists of twelve teams located throughout New England with rosters filled with top players from colleges all over the United States. The league offers elite level amateur baseball in a part of the country where baseball has historically been a favorite summer pastime.
In 2012, Mystic residents Tom and Michelle Marra generously funded major improvements at the Fitch High School baseball field including field lights to bring the facility up to NECBL standards. “Southeastern Connecticut and Mystic, in particular, are known for having enthusiastic baseball fans," Marra said. "Our goal is to see the team grow and prosper, to provide great, affordable family entertainment."
Team President Dennis Long, a Niantic native who played three summers for Hyannis in the elite Cape Cod Baseball League followed by a minor league career with the NY Mets and the Texas Rangers organizations, heads team operations assisted by Don Benoit of Old Mystic. “The Schooners are excited about another great summer of baseball in Mystic," said Long. “I hope people take in a game see what we’re all about.”
The 2018 coaching staff is led by Manager Rob Bono, former Waterford High standout player and currently assistant head coach at Central Connecticut State University. Rob is excited about bringing another NECBL championship to Mystic. The Schooners last won the title in 2016.
NECBL teams play a 42-game season, including 21 home games. The Schooners Home field is at Fitch High School, with most games beginning at 6:05 p.m.
