Oakville, Ontario - The Oakville Blades are pleased to announce that defenseman Ian Blacker has been named to Team Canada Red for the World Under-17 Challenge.
A 16-year-old rookie in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, Blacker returned to his Oakville roots after a few seasons in the Brampton Hockey Association. A highly touted talent, Blacker committed to the Western Michigan Broncos of the NCAA prior to getting selected by the London Knights at the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. Last year, Blacker was a member of the Gold Medal-winning Team Ontario at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, joining former Blades AP's Zachary Gallant (who will join Blacker on Team Red) and Ryan McLeod (Team White).
Blacker's older brother, Ben, also participated in this tournament back in 2013. A former OHA Top Prospect award winner during his time with the Milton Icehawks, Ben and Ian are set to be reunited in the future at Western Michigan.
Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C., will co-host the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7, 2015. For all three Team Canada rosters, click here.
