ENTMAA NAMED GOALTENDER-OF-THE-YEAR
The Ontario Junior Hockey League today announced that Kevin Entmaa of the Aurora Tigers has been named the recipient of the OJHL Goaltender-of-the-Year Award, as voted on by the OJHL Award Committee (Top Goaltender is for the goaltender with the lowest goals against average during the regular season).
The third-year native of Milton, Ontario has consistently improved his performance during each year in the league, all as a member of the Tigers. This season, he topped the goaltending charts in most statistical categories for the majority of the season, helping Aurora capture a second consecutive North Division regular season title.
Already named the OJHL Top Goaltender with a league-leading 2.16 goals against average and a 1st Team All-Star, Entmaa became the first Tiger to lead the OJHL in GAA since Chris Whitley in 2003-04 and the first player since CJHL Player of the Year Christian Finch (Stouffville) in 2011-12 to be named a Gongshow Gear Player-of-the-Month in back-to-back months. He took home the Goaltender-of-the-Month honours in both December and January, while also being named runner-up in November. From November 9 to February 7, Entmaa would lose only one game and had winning streaks of 10 and 11 games respectively during that stretch.
Posting a 28-5-0 record, Entmaa led all goaltenders in wins (28), shutouts (5), goals against average (2.16) and save percentage (.925%). The Tigers successful run saw them allow a league-low 122 goals against, finish as runner-up to Kingston for the OJHL regular season crown and end the season ranked ninth in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top 20 Rankings.
Previously named a 2nd Team All-Prospect in 2011-12, Entmaa was a member of the OJHL North Division All-Star Team at the 2012 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge that was held in Wellington, Ontario last year.
The OJHL Goaltender-of-the-Year Award is awarded to the goaltender adjudged to have demonstrated the greatest all-round ability at his position throughout the regular season.
Alex Brooks-Potts of the Kingston Voyageurs is runner-up in the OJHL Award balloting to Entmaa.
The 19-year old rookie got off to a quick start, going 6-0 during September to be named Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month, ultimately leading the Vees to the OJHL regular season title. Brooks-Potts posted a 26-7-2 record, tied for second among OJHL netminders in wins, the fifth best goals against average (2.54) and the fourth best save percentage (.923%).
The OJHL Scholastic Player-of-the-Year and OJHL Top Prospect recipients will be announced next week.
