The Ontario Junior Hockey League tonight announced that Kevin Shier (photo credit - Tim Bates/OJHL Images) of the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots has been named the 2013-14 winner of the Brent Ladds Trophy as the Playoff Most Valuable Player.

Shier was dominant throughout the Patriots' 2013-14 OJHL playoff run, leading the playoffs in scoring with 24 assists and 32 points in 19 games played.

The 20-year old native of Toronto, Ontario, who was originally a member of the Aurora Tigers (2011-12), finished third in scoring on the Patriots this season with 54 points in 46 regular season games played.  He received international attention prior to Christmas for his role in saving a U.S. soldiers life by helping pull him from a burning truck while en route to school visit at Union College.  He later committed to Union College for next year and following the season was named the OJHL Humanitarian-of-the-Year.

The Brent Ladds Trophy was officially dedicated on June 16, 2012 during the General Assembly of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Annual General Meeting in Windsor, Ontario, upon Ladds official retirement following 36 years of service to OHA Hockey.

Toronto Lakeshore captured the OJHL Championship and the Frank L. Buckland Trophy for the first time in franchise history with a five game series victory over Aurora and will now represent the Ontario Junior Hockey League at the 2014 Dudley-Hewitt Cup being held from April 29 to May 3 in Wellington, Ontario.  The Patriots open the tournament at 2:30pm on April 29 versus the SIJHL champion and the host Wellington Dukes open the tournament at 7:30pm versus the NOJHL champion.
