Whitby Fury netminder Tyler Feaver (photo credit - Tim Bates/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Manhattanville College Valiants beginning with the 2015-16 ECAC West Conference season.
Born on November 25, 1994, Tyler Feaver was raised and played his entire minor hockey career in Whitby, Ontario, including his minor midget and midget seasons from 2009-11 with the Whitby Wildcats 'AAA' organization. .
Feaver joined the Whitby Fury as a 16-year old rookie in 2011-12, posting a 9-4-5 record during 22 regular season contests. The high-energy netminder showed his true potential during the post-season as he would play the bulk of the games, leading the young Fury squad to a South-East Conference title and a spot in the OJHL Championship Series, before ultimately falling to the Stouffville Spirit.
The following year, Feaver took on the club's starting role and would continue his upward progression in 43 games played, posting a 20-13-4 record, including a 2.68 goals against average and .915 save percentage. The impressive season came to a disappointing end when they were ousted in the first round of the playoffs. It was off the ice, however, where Feaver would be recognized, garnering OJHL Humanitarian-of-the-Year honours for his tireless work and responsibility in helping care for Tori Lacey, who was a fellow high school student that has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Although statistically not as strong in 2013-14, Feaver still posted a 16-7-0 record for the Fury, along with a 3.20 goals against average and .892 save percentage. The past year saw a resurgence once again for the veteran backstop, getting off to a hot start in September with a perfect 6-0-0 record to be named the OJHL Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month. He carried that play through the season, earning an invitation to join Team OJHL Nieuwendyk, who would finish as the runner-up at the 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge that was held in Toronto. Feaver finished the season with a 21-18-2 record with two shutouts, a 3.00 goals against average and .904 save percentage in 42 regular season contests. He closed out his four year OJHL career with a loss to the East Division champion Trenton Golden Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.
Congratulations to Tyler on the commitment and best of luck in the NCAA!
Feaver still had impressive numbers, including a 16-7-3 record, and he is clearly back with something to prove as he closes out his OJHL career.
