The OJHL announced today that Markham Royals forward Tyson Bruce (photo credit - Andy Corneau/OJHL Images) has been named the Gongshow Gear North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for September after recording 10 goals in 9 games played during the month.

Following a pre-season trade that saw Bruce moved from Stouffville to Markham, the Aurora, Ontario native instantly became the club's offensive catalyst, leading the North-East Conference in scoring during the first month of the OJHL regular season with 10 goals and 14 points.  Bruce recorded goals in six of the club's nine games, including three consecutive multi-goal games to close out the month, and two game-winning goals, that helped the Royals (formerly Hamilton Red Wings) jump to the top of the North Division standings.

The 19-year old is in his third full season in the OJHL after having made the Stouffville Spirit in 2013-14 out of the Aurora Tigers Midget 'AA' program, where he was their captain and led the team to the OHA Cup.  As a rookie, Bruce notched a respectable 12 goals and 21 points in 48 games played to finish seventh on the team in scoring.  Returning as one of their leaders last season, Bruce led the Spirit with 27 goals to spear-head a return to post-season play.  His performance also earned the forward a spot on Team OJHL Nieuwendyk, who finished as runner-up at the 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Toronto.

Luc Brown of the Wellington Dukes was runner-up to Bruce as the North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month.  The Dukes' alternate captain recorded a recorded 8 goals and 13 points in 9 games played during September.
