The OJHL announced today that Georgetown Raiders netminder Andrew Masters (photo credit - Shawn Muir/OJHL Images) has been named the Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month for December after posting an undefeated 4-0-1 record during the month.
Named runner-up for OJHL Goaltender-of-the-Month in September, Masters continued his stellar play that has him sitting second among all OJHL netminders in most statistical categories. After opening the month with a key divisional victory over the Burlington Cougars, he turned in one of the best performances of the entire season with a 48 save, 3-3 draw versus the red-hot Wellington Dukes and OJHL leading scorer Luc Brown. Masters followed this up with two more 30+ save victories, including a 43 save, 5-1 win over Mississauga on the road to finish the month of December undefeated.
The Kitchener, Ontario native made his OJHL debut this season as a 20-year old after bouncing between Junior 'B' and 'C' the past three seasons. A product of the Kitchener Jr. Rangers 'AAA' organization, Masters made the jump to junior hockey in 2012-13 with the Paris Mounties Junior 'C' club. By the following season, he was the loops top netminder in most statistical categories and would split the season with the St. Marys Lincolns Junior 'B' squad. After starting 2014-15 in St. Marys, Masters was moved to the Sarnia Legionnaires, closing out the year in an impressive fashion by being named the GOJHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Month for February. Making the move to Junior 'A' this season, Masters has continued to post outstanding numbers, sitting second among all OJHL goalies in games played (29), wins (19), goals against average (1.97) and save percentage (.937%).
Tucker Weppner of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres was runner-up to Masters as the Goaltender-of-the-Month. Weppner and his club went on an eight game winning streak, dating back to November, as he posted a perfect 5-0-0 record with a 2.20 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
