WRIGHT NAMED SW PLAYER OF MONTH
The OJHL announced today that St. Michael's Buzzers forward Cameron Wright (photo credit - Tim Bates/OJHL Images) has been named the Gongshow Gear South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for January after leading the league with 12 goals scored during the month.
Wright notched points in 8 of the Buzzers 12 games in January, including 7 goals and three game point streak that saw him record multiple points in each game as the club pushes toward a post-season berth. After firing two goals in the first three games of the month, he would go on a tear that saw him score eight goals in the next three games. Included in that streak was a four goal outing versus the Toronto Patriots in a huge divisional victory and a hat trick in another important victory over the Orangeville Flyers. Wright again scored goals in victories over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and Orangeville Flyers, in which he scored the game-winner.
The 17-year old Newmarket, Ontario native is in his second full season with the Buzzers out of the South Central Coyotes Minor Midget 'AAA' organization where he played in 2013-14. Joining St. Michael's last season as a 16-year old, Wright took some time to adjust to the Junior 'A' game, recording five of his nine points in the final month-and-a-half of the season during 40 regular season games played. Wright also got his first taste of OJHL post-season action, playing three games and recording no points. He already surpassed his career-highs by the end of October this season and has progressively improved his offensive game throughout the year, leading up to the January award. Wright currently sits second on the Buzzers with 23 goals and third in overall scoring with 43 points in 44 games played.
Jack Jacome of the Georgetown Raiders was runner-up to Wright as the South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month. The Raiders leading scorer recorded 20 points in 13 games played during the month.
