The Ontario Junior Hockey League tonight announced that Daniel Urbani of the Trenton Golden Hawks has been named the 2015-16 winner of the Brent Ladds Trophy as the Playoff Most Valuable Player.
Urbani was the OJHL's top goaltender throughout much of the regular season and the entire 2015-16 OJHL playoff run, leading all netminders in most statistical categories, including 16 wins, 4 shutouts, a .944 save percentage and a spectacular 1.54 goals against average in 18 games played. This marks the best recorded post-season goals against average since Jimmy Sarjeant of the Newmarket Hurricanes posted a 1.46 gaa in 19 game during the 2009-10 CCHL playoffs.
The 20-year old native of Coquitlam, B.C. joined the Golden Hawks this season after leading the Kingston Voyageurs to within one game of a league title in 2014-15. Urbani was instrumental in the club's defensive domination and success this season, earning OJHL Top Goaltender honours with the fourth best goals against average in the league history (1.69) as the club captured a fourth East Division title in five years and a second OJHL regular season title in four years.
The Brent Ladds Trophy was officially dedicated on June 16, 2012 during the General Assembly of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Annual General Meeting in Windsor, Ontario, upon Ladds official retirement following 36 years of service to OHA Hockey.
Trenton captured the OJHL Championship and the Frank L. Buckland Trophy for the first time in franchise history with a five game series victory over Georgetown and will now represent the Ontario Junior Hockey League at the 2016 Dudley-Hewitt Cup being held from May 3-7 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. The Golden Hawks open the tournament at 2:00pm on May 3 versus the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) champion.
