The OJHL announced today that St. Michael's Buzzers alternate captain Cameron Wright (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL Images) has been named the Bardown South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for January after leading the league with a two points-per-game average throughout the month.

Wright notched points in eight of the Buzzers nine games in January, including a South-West Conference best 18 points.  Although missing one game due to his participation in the CJHL Prospects Game, Wright went on a tear that saw him average two points/game, while notching three game-winning goals, two of which came during key South Division victories over the Toronto Patriots and Oakville Blades.  Finishing the month with a seven game point scoring streak, Wright registered multiple points in six games, including four, three point outings, as the Buzzers clinched a post-season berth and continue to fight for the divisional crown.

The 18-year old Newmarket, Ontario native is in his third full season with the Buzzers out of the South Central Coyotes Minor Midget 'AAA' organization where he played in 2013-14.  Joining St. Michael's in 2014-15 as a 16-year old, Wright took some time to adjust to the Junior 'A' game, recording five of his nine points in the final month-and-a-half of the season during 40 regular season games played.  Wright also got his first taste of OJHL post-season action, playing three games and recording no points.  Last season, he had surpassed his career-highs by the end of October and progressively improved his offensive game throughout the year, leading up to being named the OJHL South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month in January of 2016.  Wright finished the season second on the Buzzers with 25 goals and fifth in overall scoring with 48 points in 48 games played.  He would continue to improve his offensive statistics early this season, once again setting career-bests, while also earning an NCAA commitment to join the Bowling Green State University Falcons next year.  Currently he sits second in the OJHL with 33 goals and seventh in overall league scoring with 65 points in 43 games played, while earning a spot on Team OJHL Hawerchuk at the 2016 Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held in Cornwall, Ontario and Team East for the 2017 CJHL Prospects Game, notching a goal during a 4-3 loss in Cornwall, Ontario.

Justin Paul of the Milton Icehawks was runner-up to Wright as the South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month.  Despite a trying season in Milton, the 16-year old forward has continued to excel and finished second among all scorers in the conference with 16 points, while finishing second in the South Division with 6 goals during the month.
