JACOME NAMED PLAYOFF MVP
The Ontario Junior Hockey League tonight announced that Jack Jacome (photo credit - Shawn Muir/OJHL Images) of the Georgetown Raiders has been named the 2016-17 winner of the Brent Ladds Trophy as the Playoff Most Valuable Player.
After leading the Raiders in scoring throughout the regular season, Jacome continued to be the club's offensive catalyst during the club's post-season run to the OJHL title. Jacome led all OJHL scorers in the post-season with 17 assists and 24 points in 22 games played.
The 18-year old native of Caledon, Ontario is in his second season with the club and an alternate captain, having helped the Raiders capture the franchise’s first-ever OJHL Championship with a seven game series victory over the Trenton Golden Hawks. Jacome led the OJHL in regular season scoring with 91 points and was named a 1st Team All-Star, as well as the Most Valuable Player. He is committed to join the Clarkson University Golden Knights of the ECAC.
The Brent Ladds Trophy was officially dedicated on June 16, 2012 during the General Assembly of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Annual General Meeting in Windsor, Ontario, upon Ladds official retirement following 36 years of service to OHA Hockey.
Georgetown captured the OJHL Championship and the Frank L. Buckland Trophy for the first time in franchise history with a seven game series victory over Trenton and will represent the OJHL at the 2017 Dudley-Hewitt Cup being held from May 2-6 in Trenton, Ontario. The runner-up Trenton Golden Hawks will also represent the OJHL as the host of the event. The Raiders open the tournament at 2:30pm on May 2 versus the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) champion Dryden IceDogs, while the hometown Golden Hawks open the tournament at 7:30pm on May 2 versus the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) champion, Powassan Voodoos.
