Declan Carlile of the Wellington Dukes (photo credit – Ed McPherson /OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Merrimack College Warriors in North Andover, Massachusetts, beginning with the 2019-20 season.

The native of Brooklyn, Michigan, joined the Dukes this season following two years at the Culver Military Academy in Indiana. He played youth hockey in Michigan for the Little Caesars and Compuware organizations.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defenceman scored six goals and assisted on 33 others in 54 games with Wellington this season.

Carlile played in the CJHL Top Prospects Game in Mississauga earlier this year.

Dukes coach John Druce called Carlile and teammate Chris Snell “modern-day defencmen.”

“They are mobile, move the puck well, see the ice well and they can skate,” the former NHLer told the Picton Gazette. “I think for them, because they are so mobile, choosing a time in the game when they can go and lead a rush and when they need to be patient is something that needs to be developed and refined but they are both so skillful and gifted on both sides of the puck”

Congratulations to Declan and best of luck in the NCAA!
