PATRIOTS BURTCH IS WARRIOR SOUTH-EAST PLAYER OF MONTH
January 7, 2020, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced today that Cole Burtch (Photo by Tim Bates / OJHL Images) of the Toronto Patriots has been named the Warrior South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for December after he tallied 17 points during 10 games. His five goals included two on the power play.
In his second season with the Patriots, the 18-year-old from Markham has amassed 20 goals and 28 assists during 39 regular season games. He had 21 points during his rookie campaign.
Burtch played minor hockey in the Mississauga Reps and Toronto Nationals organizations in the GTHL, winning the OHL cup in minor midget and playing in the Telus Cup national midget championships. He was an 11th-round selection by the Ottawa 67’s in the 2017 OHL draft.
TJ Koufis of the Cobourg Cougars was runner-up to Burtch as the South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The Illinois native had seven goals and eight assists in nine games.
Koufis joined the Cougars early this season from the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He split last season between Madison of the USHL and St. Cloud of the NAHL. He committed to NCAA Division 1 Wisconsin for 2020-21 during his bantam season with the Chicago Mission.
