March 21, 2020, Mississauga, ON …. The Ontario Junior Hockey League and the OJHL Foundation today launched the OJHL First Assist Program COVID-19 Support document.

The handbook was produced to assist the 500-plus players in the OJHL, as well as staff and volunteers who work with the 22 teams in the league.

The document, ‘Supporting You Through COVID-19’, is available on the OJHL website or BY CLICKING HERE.

“This will get better but there is a lot we can do to help prevent it from getting worse and to keep everyone healthy,” said OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy. “This handbook will answer questions and provide resources to our players, staff and volunteers so they can get the additional information or assistance they need.”

Glenn Chrichton of The Coping Centre and Rebecca Pister from CMHA prepared the document on behalf of the OJHL Foundation. StoneRidge Insurance Brokers are the presenting partner of the handbook – as well as the OJHL’s First Assist Program.

The online handbook contains information on the coronavirus – including a section on myths and facts – and tips on how to cope during periods of self-isolation and social distancing. Links to phone and online resources are provided.

The OJHL and the OJHL Foundation launched the foundation’s First Assist, a life skills and mental wellbeing program, in 2018. The program includes a comprehensive seminar presented by professionals in the field designed to provide players with information about mental health and wellbeing they can apply to their own lives.
