Lucas Buzziol of the Milton Menace sent the hometown fans home happy from the Ontario Junior Hockey League All-Star Game in Collingwood this afternoon.

The Union College NCAA Division I commit  fired home a wrist shot at 2:30 of three-on-three overtime to lift Team Hyman (North-West) to a 9-8 win over Team Giordano (South-East) in front of a crowd of 1,206.

Cam Garvey of the host Collingwood Blues and NHL Draft prospect Aron Jessli of the Pickering Panthers each scored a pair of goals for Team Hyman.

The winning team included the hometown Collingwood coaching staff and four Blues players.

Boyd Stahlbaum of the Haliburton County Huskies and Matthew Wilde of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens had two apiece for Team Giordano.

Garvey and Wilde were named players of the game.

Garvey enjoyed the show.

“It was exciting and well set up,” he told the OJHL. “They made it super easy for the players.

“And it was good to get to know players on the other teams. Especially with COVID the last couple of years, we haven’t been able to do things like this. It was nice to get an all-star game in again.”

Garvey was selected to play in the OJHL Prospects Game during the the last All-Star Celebration, in his home town of Oakville in 2019.

“There were a lot of family and Collingwood fans here today,” he said. “It was even more special to do it in front of them. I’m glad it was held here.”

Team Giordano held a 5-4 lead after a wild first period. Things settled down and the score was tied 6-6 after two periods.

The All-star Game was the centrepiece of this weekend’s OJHL All-Star Celebration and was televised nationally on CHCH, as part of the league’s Game of the Week schedule of games.  The game featured the best players from across the 21-team OJHL as selected by the league’s competition committee.
