BROOKS-POTTS NAMED GOALTENDER OF MONTH
The OJHL announced today that Kingston Voyageurs netminder Alex Brooks-Potts (photo credit: Robert John Boucher/OJHL Images) has been named the Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month after posting an undefeated 6-0-0 record during his first six OJHL starts as a rookie.
The OJHL also announced that it has renewed its partnership with Gongshow Hockey, Inc. for another season as the Official Lifestyle Hockey Apparel of the OJHL, while also sponsoring the OJHL Player-of-the-Month Awards and supplying all three winners each month with a Gongshow Gear apparel package.
The native of Burlington, Ontario got off to a perfect start in his rookie OJHL season, winning his first six games to go 6-0-0 on the month, while allowing just nine goals for a sparkling 1.50 goals against average. After playing Junior ‘B’ last season with the Stoney Creek Warriors, as well as one game with the Hamilton Red Wings, Alex Brooks-Potts would help lead the Kingston Voyageurs through a six game winning streak to end September and earn a spot on the CJHL Top 20 Rankings this past week at #18 in the country. Boasting a .949 save percentage in his six starts, the 18-year old would stop 167 shots, including a 42 save, 4-3 victory over the Stouffville Spirit at the OJHL Governors’ Showcase in Oakville on September 28.
"Definitely an honour winning this award," said Brooks-Potts when informed of the honour. "Something that I couldn't have done without the great support of the coaching staff, my teammates, volunteers and dedicated fans of the team. Everyone on the team has been working hard since day one. I share this award with my teammates who have supported me since the beginning of the season. "
"Great kid. Excellent work ethic. Calm positive demeanour that gives the team confidence," were just a few of the terms used by Voyageurs head coach Colin Birkas in describing his backstop. "We are happy that he has been recognized for his play and are very proud anytime a member of the Voyageurs wins an award. Alex I'm sure will be the first to share this with the players that battle in front of him."
Lucas Machalski of the Wellington Dukes was runner-up to Brooks-Potts as the OJHL Goaltender-of-the-Month. Machalski posted a 6-1-0 record with a 1.98 goals against average and a .942 save percentage in seven games played during the month.

Born on March 1, 1995 in Burlington, Ontario, Alex Brooks-Potts grew-up playing for his hometown Burlington Eagles 'AAA' program, ultimately finishing his minor hockey career as a major midget in 2011-12. He would also spend time on the Brampton Capitals roster that season, but failed to see any action.
Last season, Brooks-Potts joined the Stoney Creek Warriors of the GOJHL's Golden Horseshoe loop and would taste immediate success during his rookie campaign in Junior 'B'. He would post an 11-14-5 record with one shutout during 31 appearances with the Warriors. His 3.01 goals against average tied for 13th best in the GOJHL and his .904 save percentage tied for 18th best, earning the netminder three consecutive (January, February & March) Golden Horseshore Goaltender of the Month honours, as well as the Brent Rubel Trophy as the Golden Horseshoe Conference Rookie of the Year. Brooks-Potts would also get the call from the nearby Hamilton Red Wings, getting his first taste of Junior 'A' action in a one game trial.
Encouraged to give Kingston a shot by new Voyageurs captain Mike Casale, who had previously played for the Warriors, Brooks-Potts came to camp on a mission and looks to lead his new club to success in 2013-14.
