In order to make the leagues and its teams successful and enjoyable for its players, ALL YOUTH TEAMS require parents or other volunteers to help out in any of the following manner:
1. Head Coaches
2. Assistant Coaches
3. Team Managers
Volunteers are needed for EVERY team.
Parents can register to do any of the above, during the online registration process.
- As of right now coaches do not require certification, but we will be working with Saskatchewan Hockey Association and the Canadian Ball Hockey Association to get this in place.
Coaches:
The role of the coach in ball hockey is to provide an adult figurehead and organizer behind the bench to ensure equal playing time, kids are having fun and provide instruction and guidance when needed.
It is definately an asset to have an ice hockey background or be knowledgeable in the sport, but not mandatory.
Ball Hockey is not the same as ice hockey, there is no mandatory practices and coaches do not have to come up with set practice plans.
Coaches will be provided with a standard set of team drills if they desire to have team practices outside of regularly scheduled games. They will also be given individual skill development drills for their players and a list of the rules and guidelines our leagues adhere to, which will be handed out at the coaches/managers meeting prior to season start up.
Assistant Coaches:
Assistant Coaches will assist the head coach in running the bench, making sure the players have fun and helping out with overall communication to players.
Team Managers
Team Managers help out with overall team organization and communication, one of the biggest jobs is to communicate information from the league to all the parents and players on your team (ie: scheduling, changes to league items etc) via email or direct communication.
Volunteers
Volunteers will help Coaches, Managers and Assistants with any help they may need.
You can volunteer for your child's team during the registration process or contact your league coordinator if you did not volunteer during registration, but would like to become involved.
