July 26, 2016

As annoucned last week St. Marys Lincolns have named their new head coach for the 60th Season of the Lincolns and it is former Lincoln player Scott Thompson. Scott is 38 years old.  After playing in St. Marys the Lucan native went on to play 3 seasons in the OHL for the Brampton Batallion under head coach Stan Butler. In his first year he played on a line with 15 year old Jason Spezza and Thompson scored 19 goals that season. After his OHL career was done he played 2 years of University hockey for Brock University.

He has been a assistant coach with the Listowel Cyclones and Lucan Irish. The last 2 years he has been coached the Huron Perth Laker Midgets.

Scott is excited about being the head coach for the Lincolns. "I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach the Lincoln's and to be a part of the rebuilding process. " We know that this season is going to have its share of ups in downs but we have a plan in place that we hope helps bring back the winning culture to the Lincoln's."

The Lincolns have lost a lot of their top players from last season so it will be a rebuild and take patience. "In terms of how we are going to approach this season, first and foremost we want to bring in players that are good people. We want players that have a team first mentality - players that will go to war every night and do anything it takes to help the their teammates and the team succeed. You can have all the skill in the world but if you are not willing to put everything on the line every time you step on the ice, skill is useless. Work ethic and skill development will be main focuses all year."

For what style of hockey you can expect to see from the Lincolns this coming season Scott had this to say. "In terms of coaching style, we want to play an aggressive and up tempo style of hockey. We want to take away the other teams time and space and force them to make mistakes. And that all begins in the defensive zone - we will take care of our house first and foremost and then produce offense from there."

The Lincolns coaching staff is all in place with new assistants Mark Bell, Doug Groenestege and back from last season Rick O'Donnell. New executives and directors are in place and it is a NEW START from top to bottom in the Lincolns organization. The future looks brighter then it has in years as the foundation is set.
