Jason Booth

Director of Baseball Operations and 18U Head Coach

Jason’s baseball experiences are varied and rich.  After a successful playing career at Tiffin University in Ohio (2000-2001) and Goshen College in Indiana (2002-2004) where he led the team in ERA during the 2003 season, Jason advanced his baseball career by securing a coaching position at St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, from 2005-2008. At USF, he served as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. After his playing and coaching experiences in the American Midwest, Jason returned to Canada and accepted the position of 18U Head Coach and College Placement Coordinator for the Oakville Royals. Jason worked for the Royals from 2009-2012. During that time span, the Royals produced outstanding players including Major Leaguers like Dalton Pompey. In 2012, Jason became Director of Baseball and 18U Head Coach for Team Ontario. He has centralized the team in three York Region settings:  its home parks are in Aurora and Nobleton, Ontario; its training facility is in Vaughan, Ontario. Jason is co-owner of The Dugout—Team Ontario’s indoor training facility-- and brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to this Canadian Premier Baseball League franchise. Most recently, Coach Booth showcased his 18U Team Ontario squad at tournaments in North Carolina and Illinois in October as well as Tennessee and Iowa in April where his team earned numerous university offers.  Coach Booth’s famous Spring and Fall Trips prepare our players for the rigours of College baseball and expose our players to the incredible opportunities for student-athletes at American colleges, universities, and junior colleges.

Coach Booth brings an intensity and love of the game that inspires players to be their best.  His knowledge of the game and ability to teach all facets of baseball make him the straw that stirs the drink at Team Ontario, the second-oldest Elite Baseball team in the province. Since returning home to Canada, Jason has helped over 120 players receive baseball scholarships to U.S. schools. Team Ontario’s recent array of American and Canadian school signings reveal both Jason’s capacity to develop players and his networking skills as a Head Coach and Director of Baseball Operations, respectively.

JOEL GATTONI

Vice-President & 16U Head Coach

Joel is entering his fifth year with Team Ontario and has an extensive background in both Business and Baseball.  Having worked closely with the Director of Baseball Operations, Jason Booth, for the last 3 years, Joel has proven himself to be a dedicated and passionate member of the organization committed to not only the proper development of its players, but also the continual evolution of the Team Ontario Brand.  He has extensive baseball training and brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to the table.  As a Vice-President Joel's background in business perfectly qualifies him to build onto the organization's methods and procedures thereby allowing it to grow to its full potential.

Joel is a French Immersion Graduate of Langstaff Secondary School in Richmond Hill.  During his final two years of High school, Joel not only played for one of the top Elite Baseball teams in Ontario, but was also a Jr. A Hockey player in the GMHL.  After high school, Joel attended Concord University on a Baseball Scholarship in Athens, West Virginia as an outfielder and first baseman breaking several team educational records while there.  Joel graduated Cum Laude in 2012 and was on the team that won back to back WVIAC championships while also being NCAA Division 2 Regional Semi-Finalists two years in a row.  While playing throughout his college career Joel was specially invited and attended several MLB camps; most notably with the San Diego Padres in 2011 and the Detroit Tigers in 2012.  He also had the opportunity to workout privately with several other Major League programs after graduating high school. Upon returning to the GTA in 2012, Joel played for the IBL London Majors and began coaching with Team Ontario.

Thanks to his many years of success in high level sport, education, and business, Joel is looking forward to coaching the 16U team this year as well as making solid strides towards the poignant growth of Team Ontario.  He will be adding his own personal and professional mark to an already successful and prestigious 20 year old organization.   It is his hope to instill a sense of pride, passion, and professionalism into the players that he coaches and through his experience and drive, grant them the opportunity to succeed wherever they may go as student-athletes and young men.

Kyle McKay

Organizational Pitching Coordinator

Kyle’s baseball career is a distinguished one with an extremely wide range of experiences and accolades.  After pitching for the Medicine Hat Mavericks of the Western Major Baseball league in 2013 where he posted a 2.10 ERA, Kyle embarked on his professional pitching career with the Skagit Valley Lumberjacks (Mount Rainier Pro Baseball League) in 2014-2015, the Traverse City Beach Bums (Frontier League) in 2015-2016, and the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos Professional Baseball League in 2016. In addition to these professional experiences, Kyle has also pitched in the Intercounty Baseball League for the Kitchener Panthers from 2010-2015 and led Canada’s bronze medal-winning “Sidearm Nation” entry in the World Baseball Challenge in 2016 where he led the pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a sparkling 1.22 ERA. This result echoed his fine performance for Team Canada at the World Baseball Challenge in 2013 where he pitched effectively to post the second-lowest tournament ERA of 1.29 with strong outings versus Cuba and Japan, two international baseball powerhouses. His American college odyssey started at Kasakaskia College in 2010-11 in the NJCAA D1 where he was ranked in the Top 25 nationally for K’s per 9 innings in 2011.  Kyle transferred to the University of South Carolina Upstate in NCCA D1 Atlantic Sun Conference for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, but it was at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana that Kyle’s college pitching career really took off. In his three seasons in Fort Wayne, he became St. Francis’s All-Time Single Season Strikeout Record Holder and was named 1st Team all-conference in 2013.  Prior to his U.S. college career, Kyle played a key role in two OBA championships with the Thornhill Reds in 2007 and 2008.

Before Kyle's appointment as Team Ontario's Pitching Coordinator in 2016, he coached in 2014-15 at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana and worked three seasons as the Team Ontario 18U Pitching Coach.  Kyle’s weighted ball program, his strength training regimen, and data-driven coaching methods have yielded results for Team Ontario’s US-bound pitchers-- most notably and recently, Alexander MacKinnon of Aurora, Ontario who is starring at NCAA Division 1 Niagara as a freshman in 2017. Coach McKay looks forward to his 14U, 16U, and 18U pitchers’ progress in the CPBL this season.
