Tornado make roster tweaks

The Texas Tornado have announced a couple of roster moves before their weekend series against Odessa this Friday and Saturday. Drew Mayer, who was injured in the first period of the first game of the season, has been placed on the 21-day Injured Reserve List for the second time this season. Mayer recovered from his injury and was averaging just under a point per game since his return. The 19-year-old forward from Troy, Mich. had scored 12 goals and 9 assists in his 23 games played this season.

Filling his roster spot will be AJ Duggan, a forward out of Chesterfield, Mo. Duggan was selected by the Tornado in the sixth round of the 2012 NAHL Entry Draft, but opted for the USHL instead. He played in one preseason game with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, but injuries have kept him sidelined for most of the season. The 18 year old played Midget hockey with the St. Louis Amateur Blues, where he was a teammate of Tornado defenseman Nick Blase.

The Tornado have also released backup goaltender Jerry Kaukinen. Kaukinen, an 18-year-old import goaltender from Finland, will remain with the team for the remainder of the season. His replacement has yet to be named.
