The Wenatchee U14AAA Wolverines skated away with a perfect 4-0-0 record to win the Holiday Inn Express Youth Hockey Rep Tournament at Frontier Ice Arena in Coeur d’Alene, ID, played over the weekend of March 12-14.
Wenatchee opened the tournament against the local Cristeros team and sailed to a 7-2 win with goalie Thomas Cafarelli stopping 12 of the 14 shots he faced. Wolverines goals came from Boone Kindseth (who scored twice), Jack Muhfeld, Paco Hodgson, Seth Sween, Kael Jackson, and Kaydence Kelley.
The second game was against CDA (Coeur d’Alene) and the Wolverine defense stifled their opponent, holding them to just 10 shots on goal en route to a 6-1 win to improve to 2-0-0. Goalie Andrew Lacrosse picked up the win as Seth Sween, Boone Kindseth, Sam Swain, and Jack Muhfeld scored goals.
Moving into the semi-final round, Wenatchee faced the Seattle SnoKing Jr. Thunderbirds. Thomas Cafarelli was solid in net, helping send the game to overtime tied at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Ryan Comstock. In the extra 3-on-3 session, it was Seth Sween who was the hero with the game winning goal, launching Wenatchee into the Championship Game.
The Wolverines carried their momentum into the Championship Game as they faced Tri-Cities Jr. Americans. Goals from Seth Sween, Kael Jackson, Kaydence Kelley, and Jack Muhfeld and a shutout performance by Andrew Lacrosse led Wenatchee to a 4-0 victory and the tournament title.
"I'm really happy with the way the team competed all weekend and was really excited for them winning Sunday morning”, said Wolverines Head Coach Marcus Baxter. “We were really good defensively and limited opportunities against in all four games. I know the players are motivated for the State Tournament this weekend and I'm really looking forward to watching them play."
