WOLVERINES LOOKING FORWARD TO SECOND HALF
Wolverines at SnoKing (Dec 11-12, 2021)
A short holiday trip over to play friendlies against our in-state rivals didn’t yield the game the Wolverines were looking for Saturday night. After one of the best practices of the season Friday, Saturday couldn’t seem carry over the same jam in the pregame skate prior to heading over the pass for two games against SnoKing. Much of how the day started out is what continued into the evening matchup, with the Wolverines unable to find any teamplay or success.
Knowing that it hadn’t been the performance the players have been working towards, the group had a whole different game plan into Sunday. They quickly morphed back into the team that had showed up in practice, with their collective foot on the gas as the Wolverines took the fight to SnoKing every shift. Finishing every hit and working together with that team mentality by each and every individual doing their job. The Wolverines took the lead late in the third, and with all the momentum, it was an easy task to hold off the last 5 minutes to secure a well-earned 3-2 win prior to hitting the road to Michigan.

Collegiate Showcase (Dec 17-19, 2021)
Coming off a great team win on the west coast, the Wolverines were eager to hit the ice in East Lansing, Michigan for their first matchup against the Chicago Jets. A Jets team that had great chemistry in moving the puck was dismantled by the Wolverines and their hard pursuit of puck battles and defensive positioning. This back-and-forth matchup led to a tie in the opening game of the tournament. In the evening matchup, Wenatchee came back with that same jump that had been consistent as of late. Throughout the game, a much bigger and more physical opponent slowed down the Wolverines offense. The Kensington Valley Warriors were able to lock out the third despite a wave of powerplays, handing the Wolverines a 5-3 loss.
Wenatchee came out with a win the next morning against the Queen City Royals. A game that came down to the final few minutes with the Royals breaking the shutout in the waning moments. Another hard-fought battle with additional bumps and bruises ultimately was the turning point for the Wolverines. Even though a much-anticipated semi-final matchup to get back at KV, the Wolverines bench was shaken up and there was little offense to combat a high-flying team that had bullied Wenatchee the previous day. Followed with another goalless tilt in the morning with 5 Wenatchee players injured over the course of 2 weeks, the Wolverines were eager for the holiday break, allowing this group to rest up and make sure everyone is healed headed into the second half. Head Coach Aaron Azevedo said, “We know that when the pack is healthy and firing on all cylinders it is a team to reckon with. We’re excited to get back to this as we prepare for State and the final stretch of the year.”
