Weekend Wrap-up: Stallions Split with Calvin College

Friday, October 26 – WMU Stallions 4 @ Calvin College 5
The Stallions started strong and captured the first and only goal of the first period as Brennan Osen lit the lamp assisted by Wyatt Radakovitz and Christian Sana. 
Calvin scored on a penalty shot early in the second to tie the game. Zachary Roberts (Austin Kozar) scored late in the second period to put the Stallions ahead 2-1.
The third period would see 10 penalties called and special teams make a difference. Calvin scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game and then the Stallions’ Wyatt Ford scored to take the lead again 3-2.
Calvin then scored on back to back power plays and added a fifth goal late in the third. The Stallions Jack Kaptrosky (Osen, Dylan Cook) scored a goal late to draw within one and set up for a close finish. The Stallions pressed hard for the equalizer and had some chance but were not able to send the game to overtime.
Stallion goaltender Alex Hufford stopped 36 of 41 shots in 59:30 minutes played in the loss. The Stallions were outshot 41 to 28 in the game.
 
Saturday October 27 – Calvin College 4 @ WMU Stallions 5 OT
The second game of the home and home series took place in Kalamazoo and featured Stallion Hockey Alumni night. Thirty-five alums played in an exhibition game before the start of this ACHA / GLCHL matchup.
The Stallion team continued their fast starts when Wyatt Radakovitz (John Mears, Caylen Dyni) scored two minutes in the game. Calvin would score later in the period on the power play and the game would be tied at 1 until late in the second period when Dyni would score a shorthanded goal and put the Stallions up 2-1.
After Calvin tied the game early in the third on a short handed goal, the Stallions pulled ahead with a power play goal by Austin Kozar (Patrick Nicholson, John Mears) and a shorthanded goal by Christian Sana. Unfortunately, Calvin scored two shorthanded goals of their own to tie the game at 5 and force overtime.
Wyatt Ford scored the overtime game winner on the power play, assisted by Radakovitz, 28 seconds into overtime to give the Stallions the win.
Alex Hufford earned the win by stopping 36 of the 40 shots he faced. The Stallions peppered the Calvin team with 53 shots in the game.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Stallions are now 5-3-0-1 and travel to face Illinois State University on Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Grossinger Motors Arena near Bloomington, Illinois.
