WPU SPLITS SERIES WITH DELAWARE

The Pioneers kicked off calendar year 2019 play with a two game series on the road versus the University of Delaware.  After a strong finish to the fall semester and a solid a week of practice in early January, the Pioneers were eager to get back to game action. 

GAME 1 - WPU 3 DELAWARE 0      BOX SCORE

Jeremy Hamerquist (Woodland Park, CO) made 32 saves to lead the Pioneers to a 3-0 victory in game 1 at Fred Rust Arena in Newark, DE.  After a scoreless first period, Braden Ploehn (Wayne, NJ) would score his 1st as a Pioneer, off a shot from the point.  Alex Cavaluzzo (Parsippany, NJ) would give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead after 2 periods.  In the 3rd period, Scott Huber (Belford, NJ) would seal the 3-0 victory for the Pioneers.  The new look WPU defensive corps came up big in this one going 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.

GAME 2 - DELAWARE 9 WPU 3      BOX SCORE

Delaware added 6 new faces for game 2 and it showed as the Blue Hens pushed the pace in the opening 20 minutes.  Tommy Bauer (Fords, NJ) would score for the Pioneers, however the Blue Hens rang up 4 goals to take a 4-1 lead into the 2nd period.  Goals from Alex Cavaluzzo and Tyler Steimel (Oceanside, NY) would not be enough as the Blue Hens pulled away for the 9-3 victory and series split.  

The Pioneers are back home on Friday, January 18 to take on Temple at 9pm.  On Saturday, January 19, the team heads to Central NJ to take on Rutgers at Pro Skate Arena at 3pm.
