Rules and Regulations

I.    Regulation/Enrollment

    A)  League fee Various based on what division you play in..  Included in the league fee is 7 guaranteed regular season games, Jersey Top  (Top Four Teams Makes The Playoffs)  

    B)  If time remains on our court permits we will have an all-star and three-point contest following the conclusion of the playoffs for at least one player on your team.

    C)  The league fee is due at or before your first game, NO EXCEPTIONS.  If payment is not received by the due date, your team will not be placed on the schedule.

    D)  Referee Fees- Referee fees are $40 per team and are required before every regular and post-seaon game. NO EXCEPTIONS

    E)  Jerseys- Jerseys or at minimum a t-shirt with a number must be worn.  You must have a dark and light colored jersey available at each game.  Contact us for our reversable Above The Rim jerseys that are customized with your choice of color scheme, numbers, and sizes available for $29 each.

    F)  Team Forms- Each team is required to fill out a registration form which will include your team name, availability and full roster ( each players full name, cell phone number, and an Instagram or Facebook handle)

    G)  Waiver- Each team is required to sign the waiver which includes every player on the team.  You will not be able to participate if the waiver is not signed.

 

II.    Scheduling

    A)  Availability must be designated at the beginning of the season.Games are played on Sun day anytime from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  Weeknight games are played Monday through Thursday anytime from 7:00 pm to 12:00 pm.  At least eight slots of availability must be selected in order for us to match you up against each team in your division.  Once availability is selected games will be scheduled according  to it.  Request to move games must be made at least 72 hours in advance.  Any request off inside your availability must be made two weeks in advance.  When selecting availability please realize that the greater your teams availability, the better competition we can provide you.

    B)  Cancellations and No Shows- If you cancel a game less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up to a scheduled game with no prior warning your team will receive a forfeit loss.  In addition you will be responsible for both your Referee Fee and your opponents Referee Fee ($70), which will be due at your next game.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  The schedule is posted at least a week in advance so there is no reason to cancel a game without warning.  

    C)  Lateness- A ten minute warm up period is granted between games.  One the buzzer goes off at ten minutes and your team is not there, the game clock will be started and the opposing team will receive 2 points per minute until you arrive.  Once you arrive you will begin the game with that many minutes off the clock and down that many points.  Please make sure to arrive on time.  Leave early enough to avoid any traffic.  Your team being late affects not only your opponent but the following games as well.  Please rive on time and do  ot force us to enact this policy.  

    D)  Playoffs-  Playoffs will be single elimination.  Playoff brackets will be determined by the number of teams in each division.  Playoff seeding will be determined by 1) overall record, the 2) head to head record.

    E)  All-Star and Three Point Contest- Participants will be selected based on regular season statistics.  At least one player from each team will be named to the all-star team.  All-Star MVP and Three Point Champion will receive prizes.

 

III.  Gameplay

    A)  Each game will consist of two 15 minute halves.  The clock will stop on substitutions and Free Throws.  The clock will not stop on other team fouls, violations, or out of bound plays.  Please be aware of that and hustle to the sideline to inbound the ball to avoid losing time off the clock.  The clock will stop on all substitutions, violations, fouls, out of bounds plays, and made baskets within the last minute of the first half, and the last two minutes of the second half.  

    B) Overtime- If overtime is required the first period will be 3 minutes and any overtime required after that will be 2 minutes.  Team fouls remain the same and the clock will be treated the same as regulation until the last minute where it will stop on everything.  

    C)  Fouls- The Bonus is reached at 7 fouls and the Double Bonus is reached at 10 fouls.  Players will be fouled out at 6 fouls.  Players will be ejected after 2 technical fouls and are granted only 3 technical fouls on the season before they will be suspended for a game.

    D)  Stats- Points, Rebounds, Assists and Three Pointers made will be diligently recorded and posted at the end of each week.  After week 4 league leaders will begin getting posted.  The top ten players for each division in each statistic will be posted.  A player must have played 75% of his teams games in order to eligible for league leaders.

 

IV.  Conduct

    A)  Above The Rim LI has ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FIGHTING, as it is our goal to make this an enjoyable experience who participate.  We are committed to running our league in an organized and classy fashion, and are committed to providing our players with a basketball experience superior to that of any other leagues on Long Island.  This is a Men's league and we expect our players to act like Men and treat all referees, scorekeepers, and fellow players with respect.  Our gyms are currently The Upper Room in Dix Hills, Mercy High School in Riverhead, and YMCA in Patchogue.  We must be mindful of the fact that we are playing in a religious facility at our Upper Room gym.  Please act like adults and treat our home gyms with respect so that Above the rim LI may continue to use these facilities.
