Policies, Volunteers and Professional Coaches

Coaches/Managers/Professional Instructors Please READ

Starting Jan 1st, all volunteers and Professional Instructors will have to resubmit/submit  a new Volunteer Application for the manadatory background check. This is critical for our Little League compliance and use of the BSLL Facilities. Please download the 2015 form below and email to to safetyofficer@bsll.org .

Background Checks:

  • All volunteers/Professional Instructors are required to undergo background checks, and since volunteerism is "required" for coaches, and managers, we conduct a large volume of checks regularly

  • Our background check program is administered by the League Safetyofficer

  • The background check system requires a form to be filled out (attached file bellow)   submitted with a copy of photo identification and social security number.

thank you for volunteering,

AED/CPR Safety Training for BSLL

Little league mandatory safety training

BSLL (and Little League International) requires one coach or manager from each team to attend safety training once per year. BSLL recommends that all coaches and managers undergo safety training annually. One league-approved coach or manager from each team must attend one of the following dates:

February 14, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. (at BSLL Field House) - click here for session 1
February 21, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. (at BSLL Field House) - click here for session 2

Space is limited to 10 people per session. Board members and parents who are not coaches or managers are also welcome to attend. BSLL pays the cost of this training.

Licensed medical doctors, licensed registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and licensed paramedics are not required to attend, subject to the rule that at least one coach or manager from each team must attend once per year (so if the only coach or manager is a licensed medical professional listed above, he/she is still required to attend).

Thank you for volunteering and for helping keep our kids safe!

Pool Players - Rules

The use of “Pool Players”:
There are times throughout each season where a team may not have 9 players to field a team. Under these circumstances, a team may utilize a “pool player”, to be selected from the list of “pool players” provided to the player agent by the managers in that division. “Pool players” may be utilized when a team has 8 or less players available for a given regular season game.  Pool players may not pitch, may not catch, nor may “pool players” be utilized in the playoffs.  Further, to the extent that a team requires a “pool player” to field a 9 player team, “pool players” should play the outfield and bat at the bottom of the lineup. A team shall not utilize a “pool player” if at the time of the start of the game that team has 9 players available to play from its roster. Furthermore, a team should never use more “pool players” than is needed to field a team of 9 players. Prior to the beginning of scheduled games each season, the player agent shall solicit from the managers of each team in his division a list of those players who agree to serve as “pool players” as needed. When a “pool player” is needed for a particular game, the manager needing a “pool player” shall advise the player agent of that division and is required to select the next available player on the pool player list to play in that game. The use of “pool players” in the playoffs is not permitted.
