The Senior Team

The Excelsior Senior Legion team provides a varsity level experience for players that want a full summer schedule at the highest level of competition. Players are 19 years old and younger are eligible with a January 1 cut off date. All high school age players are eligible as well as young college freshman. The typical season features approximately 40 games comprised of both league and tournament play during the months of June and July.

The team will travel to two out-of-state tournaments. Past Excelsior Legion teams have visited places like Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Oregon, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, West Virginia, Florida, New York, Virginia, and the Dominican Republic. Excelsior Legion Baseball is widely recognized as one of the nation's premier programs and has a long and storied history of excellence as evidenced by its many league championships, Regional and State tournament wins, and American Legion World Series appearances.

Senior Legion Summer Tournaments 2017

Coaches Round Robin Tourney - This is a four team crossover to start the season featuring North St. Paul, Fridley Gold, Waconia and Excelsior Legion teams. This year the tourney is held at Veterans Field in Minnetonka.

June 28 - July 5th Rhode Island Firecracker Tournament - This showcase-based tournament will be held over the 4th of July weekend with lots of exciting action with up to 36 teams being represented. Gopher Classic at Veterans Field MHS - Excelsior Legion hosts eight of the 96 teams for pool play and will host the championship round as well. Teams competing at the Excelsior host sites are: White Bear Lake, Fargo ND, Rochester Patriots, Waconia, and Watertown SD. The Gopher Classic draws teams from all over the United States and Canada and currently reigns as the largest Legion baseball tournament in the country. The 2017 Excelsior site schedule.

Legion Sub District 4 Playoff Tourney - Eden Prairie 2 will host the 2017 playoff tournament with the winner advancing to the Minnesota State Legion Tournament.

State Legion Tournament - Hosted by Tr-City Red, the Minnesota State Tournament moves to a terrfic new setting: CHS Field in St. Paul, home of the Saints. Additional sites for the sixteen team double elimination tournament are Seibert Field at the University of Minnesota, Northwester College, and Dunning Field also in St. Paul.

American Legion World Series - The annual Legion World Series is held in Shelby North Carolina at Keeter Stadium. ALl games are livecast so you can follow your favorite teams.

Technology Corner

Our squads utilize several digital tools and apps to provide full communications and activity access to families and players. Our little Technology Corner will post information to access these tools and apps as well as instructions on how to use them.

TEAM SNAP - This is the tool we use to maintain roster and contact information, activity and game schedules, and links to maps of various sites. This is an "opt in" app that is based on the acceptance of membership invitation by the individual (player, coach, parent). Get your Team Snap App available for Android and iPhone. It is free. You will be able to see roster information, schedules and site directions. The Team Snap app will be the most up to date tool.

GAME CHANGER - This tool is used to score our games at home and away. We track statistics on this application. Fans can follow any game live with the Game Changer app on any mobile device. There is a 'fan fee' charged by the vendor. Our teams are listed as : Excelsior Senior Legion Team and Excelsior Junior Legion Team of the Team Finder.

FACEBOOK PAGES - We maintain Facebook pages for the Junior team - Maynard's Mudhens; the senior team: Excelsior Legion Baseball; The Gopher Classic Tournament; and the Melde Meltdown. This is an opportunity for sharing pictures and videos of the year as it unfolds. The pages work best when people submit items to post and even better when a team parent helps out by helping us post items and photos. Volunteer?
