Florida Collegiate Summer League

Internships

Each summer, the Florida League gives the opportunity for roughly 45 college students to gain valuable experience working in the sports industry. The Florida League offers several different types of internships in the spring and throughout the summer season. Interns are typically in college or recently graduated, with a background in Sports Management, Marketing, Business, Hospitality, Communications, Journalism and Broadcasting.

2018 Interns at the Amway Center

More than 85 of our past interns currently hold positions with professional, collegiate and amateur sports teams and leagues. Overall, we have had more than 125 former interns work in the sports industry. This includes jobs with MLB, the NFL, the NBA, NCAA Division I & II schools and dozens more organizations (including the Florida League)!

Team Operations
Each team has between 3-8 team ops interns. Under the direction of the team General Manager, the team ops interns will cover all facets of the non-baseball operations of the team. This includes marketing and promotion of the team before the season; tickets, concessions and fan engagement during the season, and planning and executing your own promotional night at the ballpark. 

Openings: 20-25
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work 35-40 hours/week, positive attitude, customer service skills, ability to multi-task
Preferred Qualifications: Marketing background, sales background, social media experience, love for baseball

League Social Media
Social Media interns will focus on the marketing and promotion of each Florida League team, as well as the League itself. There will be a social media intern assigned to each team, who will then be responsible for posting engaging content before, during, and after each game. Concentration will be focused on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with the possibility of expanding into other formats. Social media interns will attend every game of their assigned team.

Minimum Qualifications: Familiar with mainstream social media accounts; knowledge and understanding of baseball; creative thinker; basic graphic design knowledge; basic photography skills
Preferred Qualifications: Experience running a non-personal social media account, Advanced graphic design knowledge, familiar with Adobe Suite

Team Communications 
This position will encompass complete media coverage of your assigned team. As a writer, you will be responsible to write a recap after every game to be posted on the league website. This includes getting quotes from players and coaches before and after the game. As a broadcaster, you will serve as the play-by-play announcer for your team's home games, with the option to join the broadcast on the road as a color commentator. Every Florida League game is broadcast live via online webcast. You will have full reign on how to produce and execute each broadcast, including pre-game show, on-air guests, and post-game interviews. You will work closely with your team’s social media intern for interviews to be posted on various social media platforms.

Minimum Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of the game of baseball, including rules and terminology; strong writing skills; on-air broadcast experience; familiar with mainstream social media platforms
Preferred Qualifications: Published work in newspaper/on website; social media experience under a non-personal account; played baseball in high school/college

League Video Production
Production interns will focus on working our video cameras and streaming games to FloSports through our Sling Studio equipment. You will be working as a crew to get 2-4 cameras (depending on the ballpark) streaming and mixed in with the play-by-play audio from the Communications interns. You will also be running the actual Sling Studio board itself and choosing the best camera angles during the action.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced sports videography, Running streaming boards/apps

League Operations
There is one League Ops spot that runs from January - August. We will then hire an additional two league ops interns who start in May and work through August. League Ops interns report to the Florida League office Monday - Friday. The League Operations interns will assist in the administration and execution of the:

Futures League: Scoring games, maintaining website and social media accounts, liaison between players/parents/coaches and the League office

High School Spring Break Tournaments: On-site supervisor, scoring games, PA/music, social media updates

Florida League: League official at games, marketing/public relations, procure sponsors/groups, inventory management, roster updates

Openings: 1-3
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to score a baseball game; familiar with social media platforms; strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: Graphic design skills; strong writer; sales experience, deep knowledge of the game of baseball
