Planning to Pay for College Education
Free Seminar for Jr.Titan Parents

Lets face it. College is expensive. No matter how much aid or scholarship money you get, families will have to come up with a good sum to educate, feed and give students a place to sleep. The earlier you start planning for college the better. The less you or your student borrows, the better opportunity your student will have for true financial independence.

The College Board reports that a "moderate" college budget for an in-state public college for the 2012-2013 academic year averaged $22,261. A moderate budget at a private college averaged $43,289.

As part of our mission to prepare players for college, we do not want to ignore this important aspect of college planning. Money is a big deal.

We have been fortunate in getting one of our members to donate his time so that we can have a free seminar for all Titan parents on conjunction with Titans day.  The meeting will be at Middletown on Saturday August 24 @12:15pm, and will be hosted by Brandon Kape of Ameriprise Financial, a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, former captain Men's Ice Hockey at URI 2006 National Champions, and Titans MET League Junior Coach.

Mite-Midget parents should attend. The earlier you get planning for college, the more flexibility you will have.

Planning for Life

Hockey is part of your life, and we hope it will stay with you forever.  But hockey players face some tough decisions that are not part of the college decisions of other athletes.  Most hockey players will face one or two 'gap years' playing Juniors or PG Prep between HS and College if they are planning on playing college hockey. Hockey may be a key to their admissions to certain schools.  Some players will opt instead to end their junior careers earlier and head to college with their HS graduating class.  Many will not know their fate as they enter senior year.  Much depends on exposure, development and maturation as a player to see if they can continue to advance in an incredibly competitive landscape.

There are far more players that wind up at ACHA or DIII teams than DI.  All the considerations makes your planning for college and career more difficult than the average student.

We ask that all of our players take the steps needed to plan for their individual road ahead.

All Titan Midget and Junior players should complete the questionnaire below.  We want you thinking about your future and working toward your lifetime goals.  Your life is your responsiblity, and like hockey, college and the professional world requires preparation for a player/student  to be ready to perform at their best.

Each month the club will issue a newsletter with articles geared to your preparation for college and career. Read it and work the guidance into your plans.  We can also speak to you about the issues specific to your college and career goals.

Completed surveys will result in a follow up from our educational team during the season.  Note that you also need a realistic assessments and feedback from the hockey staff to integrate your educational and hockey goals.
