Tony Santomauro

Tony Santomauro- Legends Baseball Founder and Head Coach. Tony has been actively involved in baseball since his playing days in Little League Baseball. He played competitive summer collegiate baseball in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League were he batted .325 and received all star honors. Tony had tryouts with the Cubs and Reds and declined to enter the 1974 amateur draft as a junior. He was scouted by the New York Mets after his season but a injured knee ended his playing days.

Tony continued playing amateur baseball and started coaching  when his son Nick was old enough to participate in organized baseball. Tony went on to develop a competitive travel baseball program in North Caldwell and founded the "North Caldwell Knights" program. He served on the North Caldwell Baseball Association Board of Directors and as Director of Travel Baseball. His teams went on to garner 7 championships in the highly competitive Cerbo Baseball League. He was selected as a "scout/coach" for the Stars and Stripes International Tournament in Orlando, Florida December 2012.  

Most recently, since 2018 Tony has been serving as an Associate Scout for the New York Mets organization.

Single-season ranks: home runs, 1st (11 - 2008) and 8th (8 - 2009); contests played, 1st (44 - 2009) and 4th (42 - 2008); walks, 4th (30 - 2008) and 13th (26 - 2007); RBI, 5th (45 - 2008) and 11th (40 - 2009); hits, 6th (61 - 2009) and 10th (59 - 2008); runs, 6th (44 - 2008) and 10th (41 - 2009); triples, 7th (5 - 2008); batting, 12th (.395 - 2007); doubles, 12th (13 - 2009).

2009: Selected by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft with the 314th overall selection ... Ivy League Player of the Year and unanimous selection for All-Ivy first team ... NEIBA All-New England second team ... Blair Bat Award recipient with the highest batting average (.473) in Ivy league baseball ......Banged out two hits in each of the NCAA Regionals, hitting .500 overall.

2008: All-Ivy League and NEIBA All-New England first team ... ABCA All-Northeast second team ... chosen as the team’s best offensive player ... led the team in runs, triples, homers, RBIs, slugging and walks ... also tied for the team lead with 17 multi-hit contests. Destroyed Columbia pitching in the Ivy Championship, going 5-for-11 (.455) with four homers, five runs and eight RBIs for a slugging percentage of 1.545.

2007: All-Ivy first team and NEIBA All-New England second team ... team’s rookie of the year and best offensive player ... Ivy Rookie of the Week once ... led the team in 10 offensive categories ... batting average dipped below .400 after just two contest all season ... reached base safely in all but two contests.

During his first season as a pro, Santomauro batted .241 with six home runs for Brooklyn in the short-season New York-Penn League. In 2010, Santomauro advanced to full-season Savannah of the Class A South Atlantic League and 2011, Santomauro played in 39 contests for the New Jersey Jackals in the Can-Am League. Nick stayed another year in professional baseball working with the Chicago Cubs Advance scouting division. He is currently living and working in San Francisco, working at Apple.

Isaac Pavlik

Isaac Pavlik The longest-tenured member of the New Jersey Jackals, left-hander Isaac Pavlik embarks on his ninth season at Yogi Berra Stadium in 2013. He will also serve as the Jackals' pitching coach. A Rutherford native, Pavlik is coming off a 2012 campaign in which he won 12 games (second in the league), 114 strikeouts (second in the league) and a .321 ERA (third in the league). 

In 2011 Pavlik posted a career-high 13 games and was named to the Can-Am League’s Postseason All-Star Team as the squad’s left-handed pitcher after leading the league in strikeouts (112), innings (131.2), and games started (19), finishing second in wins (13), complete games (5), and shutouts (1), and ranking third in ERA (2.73).

A 10th round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2002 draft out of Seton Hall, Pavlik began his professional career with the Single-A Tri-City Dust Devils, where he compiled a 1.13 ERA in 27 games. After spending 2003 with the Rockies Single-A affiliate in Visalia, the Belleville, NJ native signed with the Northeast League’s Bangor Lumberjacks before finding his way to the Jackals for the 2005 season.  Pavlik's 126 career appearances with the Jackals are the most.  

 

Andrew Santomauro

Andrew Santomauro -

2012: Received Paul E. Koch '28 Award as team's most valuable offensive player...Patriot League All-Tournament Team...The only Leopard to appear in and start all 52 games...Played centerfield for all but three innings...Hit .277 in 195 at-bats with one home run, four triples, 12 doubles, 21 RBI and 32 runs scored...Posted a .318 on-base percentage and a .395 slugging percentage...Stole a team-high 11 bases...

2011: Appeared in 27 games, including 12 starts in left field and three in centerfield...Batted .263 (15-for-57) with four RBI and nine runs scored...Had six stolen bases, a sacrifice bunt and two sacrifice flies......Entered as a pinch hitter and went 2-for-2 with an RBI at Army in Game 2 of the Patriot League Tournament Semifinal on May 14.

At West Essex: 2010 Essex County Player of the Year...First team all-state, all-county and all-conference as a senior...2010 New Jersey Coaches Association All-Star...An all-conference and all-county honoree in 2009. Santomauro concluded his high school career batting .469 and driving in 28 runs from the lead off spot. Santomauro scored a school record - 42 runs, was successful on 17 -17 stolen bases, including home plate, and reached base at an alarming .542 clip.

Andrew is currently working in the Social Media Industry in Manhattan and resides in Brooklyn, New York.

 

Alex Gouin

Professional Baseball Career 

Somerset Patriots 2016 - Current

Gouin enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. He has spent the majority of his two seasons in professional baseball with the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League. In 2015, Gouin went 8-4 with a 3.84 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 18 appearances (14 starts).

Rockland Boulders 2014/2015

After college, Alex signed a contract to play for the Rockland Boulders of the Canadian American Professional Independent League. Gouin, who joined the team during the 2015 season, was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in the 2016 season. In his debut with Rockland on Monday night, Gouin closed out the victory for the Boulders pitching two innings of relief without allowing an Ottawa hit. He faced a minimum of six batters and struck out one batter.

Since joining the team last year, the 5’11” righthy holds a 11-5 overall mark with the Boulders, including a 3.60 ERA. The Cuban-born pitcher tossed eight shutout innings in his last outing for Rockland against Les Aigles from Canada on July 1st, 2016. After his last start, his contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Alex went on to sign as a free agent. He was assigned to Hillsboro, Oregon to play for the Hillsboro Hops, a Single-A affiliate of the Diamondbacks. This upcoming spring he will reporting to spring training to continue his professional career in the Diamondbacks organization.

SENIOR (2014)

In his final year with the Hawks, Akex recorded a single season school record nine saves as the primary closer. He was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team and the NEIBA All-Region Second Team after posting an ERA of 2.74, allowing seven runs, all earned, on 21 hits over 23 innings of work. Gouin also struck out 15 batters.

JUNIOR (2013)
Made 17 total appearances, mostly out of the bull pen, with one start … pitched a total of 35.1 innings and closed out the season with a 2-2 record and a 5.35 earned run average … gave up 24 total runs, 21 earned, on 35 hits … struck out 26 batters, fifth most on the team … the lone start came in his first appearance, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing eight earned runs on six hits … first victory of the season came in a two innings relief appearance against UMBC (4.6.13) … also registered a victory in two innings of relief against Northeastern (5.7.13) … finished both of those appearances without allowing a run in four innings … struck out a career-high six batters in 3.2 innings of relief against Stony Brook (4.14.13) … named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

SOPHOMORE (2012)
Made 10 appearances on the mound as a sophomore … pitched a total of 48.2 innings starting all but one of his appearances … finished with an 0-5 record and a 5.92 earned run average, fourth among the starting rotation … finished fifth on the team with 22 strikeouts, including a career-high of four on two occasions … struck out four in a no decision home win over NJIT (3.30.12), pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits … also struck out four in the second game of a doubleheader against conference rival Stony Brook (4.21.12).

FRESHMAN (2011)
Played in 22 total games, with 19 appearances in the field, including 13 starts, while pitching in 10 games, starting six on the hill … in 28 at bats, finished with five hits, four RBI and four runs scored … also smacked a pair of long balls, one each in back-to-back games against Radford (3.12.11 & 3.13.11) … drove in a pair of runs in the first game against Radford … recorded 81 putouts and eight assists in the field … compiled a 5.92 ERA, second on the team, pitching 38.0 innings … allowed 25 runs, all earned, on 37 hits with 13 strikeouts … finished without a win in three decisions … first start on the mound came at Virginia Tech (3.16.11), pitching 5.1 innings … allowed seven earned runs on two hits and finished with a career-high three strikeouts … pitched a total of six innings of scoreless ball over two relief outings, four innings at Oregon State (3.6.11) and two innings at Delaware State (3.20.11) … overall allowed just two runs in 9.1 relief innings.

BEFORE HARTFORD
A member of the varsity team at West Orange High School for four seasons ... excelled on the mound and at third base in high school ... a two-time first team all-conference selection ... Area Player of the Year as a senior, as named by Worral Publications ... put together a 1.02 ERA last season over 55 innings, holding opposing batters to a .156 batting average while striking out 69 ... hit .484 with five home runs his last season.
