The Lehigh Valley Baseball League hosts a spring tryout and draft to for new players. This is a fun event designed to help connect players with teams at the appropriate skill level. Average attendance is 40 new players. Our goal is to help place every player. 

Basic draft eligibility as follows:

  • All Draft Participants must sign a liability waiver prior to participating in the tryout.
  • Minimum 16 years old (Proof of age required), youth players must be accompanied by parent or guardian
  • Legal Resident of the United States
  • The League does not allow participation if you have a felony record

Players who are drafted by a team will register for the upcoming season online for the drafting team. The draft registration and laibility waiver is not the official player registration for the upcoming season. When you register you will be charged the player registration fee for the season ($70). Each team handles finances differently but in general you can expect to pay between $100 to $200 to your team for the season for umpires, baseballs, hats and jerseys, etc.

What do you need for the Tryout?

  • Baseball attire including baseball cleats, pants, a glove, a wood bat (No Aluminum), sunglasses and hat
  • Specialty equipment to catch or play first base like a first baseman's glove, infield or outfield gloves depending on position
  • Batting helmet is required
  • A fun and competitive spirit

Draft FAQ's

  1. What can you expect at the Tryout and Draft?
    A. Players tryout together in defined groups. Each player can hit, field, pitch and catch . Whatever you position, we want to see your abilities.
  2. How long is the event?
    A. Typically under 2-hours depending on turnout.
  3. What pitching speed can you expect?
    A. We will throw live BP or use a pitching machine for consistency. We are not trying to strike you out unless you deserve it! 
  4. What food and drinks are at the tryout?
    A. Please bring your own food and beverages.
  5. Am I guaranteed to be drafted?
    A. No, However the large majority of players find a great team to join. You chances increase if you demonstrate more skill. 
  6. If I'm not drafted am I entitled to a refund of any fees?
    A. Yes!
  7. What if it rains the day of the Tryout?
    A. We will either move indoors or reschedule. We will keep you posted.
  8. How soon will i be practicing or playing with my team?
    A. The draft is held right at the beginning of the season, so you can expect to be playing quickly.
  9. What age players are in the league?
    A. Players range from 16 to 40+ if they can compete at this level. Player under 18 are required to have parental consent and team managers must complete a background check and keep on file with the league.
  10. Overall, how competitive is the league?
    A. The league has different competition levels by design. The AA Division is best for players who are interested in playing competitive Baseball with average to above average talent for most teams. The AAA Division is the most competitive Division with a good number of current and former college and semi-pro players. The 25 Division has very good teams as well, the major difference is the speed of the players and a more fun and family style approach as these teams have many players with families and children.
