NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – After hitting .275 with seven home runs as a New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) rookie last summer, Plymouth outfielder Brent Rooker (Mississippi State) already had a solid foundation to build from as he entered his second summer in the league in 2015; not only did he merely raise those figures, he obliterated his previous totals and, deservedly so, has been named the 2015 NECBL Most Improved Player, the league announced Thursday.

A 2015 NECBL All-Star, Rooker was in contention for the league’s Triple Crown title all summer long and finished third in batting average (.360), first in homers (10) and first in RBIs (33). He also led the league in runs scored (36), hits (59), total bases (99), at-bats (164) and slugging percentage (.604) thanks to those aforementioned 10 homers and 10 more doubles. He also finished with an astounding 1.017 OPS for the summer.

Virtually every one of those numbers were up from his impressive debut season in 2014, when Rooker posted a .275/.338/.443 slash line with seven home runs, 20 RBIs and 36 hits. More impressively, he cut down his strikeout total by 10 from last summer to this while also doubling his stolen base count from six to 12.
