HEAD COACH - CHRISTOPHER COSENTINO

Chris Cosentino enters his 10th season as Head Coach of the New York University hockey team. This will be the program's third season at the ACHA D1 level as a member of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL). The team's first two seasons at the ACHA Division 1 level, NYU recorded a cumulative record of 25-27-3.

In 2016/2017, Cosentino led the Violets to their second ACHA D2 National Championship title in 3 years. The team also captured the SECHL championship for the second time in three years and the third time in team history. Cosentino was also named ACHA D2 Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons.

The team also excelled off the ice receiving the NYU President's Service Aeard for the third straight season and led the region in All-Academic Honorees with an impressive 16 student/athletes earning at least a 3.3 grade-point-average. This was the 17th straight season the Violets led the league in All-Academic Honors.

In 2015/2016, despite welcoming 13 freshman, Cosentino led the Violets to the #1 seed in the Northeast Region earning the program's 1st auto-bid to the National Tournament. NYU fell in the SECHL Championship game, the team's 3rd SECHL Championship appearance in 5 years. The young Violet team went 1-2 at the National Tournament falling in overtime trying to advance to the Final Four.

In 2014/2015, Coach Cosentino led the Violets to the program's first ACHA National Championship title, 2015 SECHL Championship title, ACHA Community Service Award, NYU President's Service Award. Coach Cosentino was also named 2015 ACHA and Northeast Region Coach of the Year. Once again, NYU Hockey led the league in All-Academic honorees.

In 2013/2014, 19 NYU hockey student/athletes earned SECHL All-Academic honors and boasted an impressive 3.5 overall team GPA. In 2014, Coach Cosentino guided NYU to the ACHA National Tournament where the team went 2-1 in pool play and finished the season ranked #5 in the country.

In 2013, Coach Cosentino led the Violets to the SECHL Championship game and the Northeast Regional final.

In January of 2013, Coach Cosentino was invited by the New York Rangers to design and lead a three day on-ice training camp prior to the start of the lockout shortened NHL season.

In 2011, the NYU Hockey team was awarded the prestigious NYU President's Service Award for outstanding community service efforts. The NYU Hockey Charity of the Game Program raises funds and awareness for a different not for profit organization at each NYU hockey home game. Since the Charity of the Game program began, the NYU hockey team has assisted over 30 charities in the NYC area. Members of the NYU Hockey program have volunteered to cook dinner for families at The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, serve warm meals at the St. Francis Xavier Church and participate in the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers 5K Run where the team raises over $1,500 annually.

Prior to NYU, Coach Cosentino spent six seasons coaching with the prestigious New York Apple Core Junior Program where he guided over 100 players on to top collegiate hockey, including defenseman Anthony Bitetto who was drafted in the 6th Round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. Coach Cosentino served his final two seasons at Apple Core as the Head Coach of Apple Core's Junior 'A' team which competed in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL). In 2010 he was named to the EJHL All-Star team coaching staff and guided nineteen players on to top collegiate hockey. In his time with Apple Core, he played a large role in formulating the organization's ultra-successful model for player development and enhanced the program's marketing efforts during his well-respected tenure.

Prior to coaching Junior 'A' hockey, he served three seasons as Head Coach of the Apple Core Junior 'B' team of the Empire Junior Hockey League where in 2008 he was selected to the Empire League All-Star team coaching staff. In 2007 and 2006, he served as Head Coach of the Empire League All-Star Selects which competed in Chicago and Minnesota.

Throughout his coaching career, Chris has served as a coach and an evaluator at the USA Hockey New York District Festival Camp. In 2004, he served as assistant coach for Team New York City at the Empire State Games where he helped lead the team to its first shut-out win in team history.

His playing career was hindered by several injuries, including two major knee operations. He played his collegiate hockey at both the Division 1 (Iona College) and Division 3 (SUNY-Geneseo) levels. He suited up for Apple Core's Junior 'A' team for four seasons between 1998-2001 and was a member of the St. Mary's High School New York State Championship team in 2000. He was a two-time member of Team New York at the USA Hockey Festivals and won the Silver Medal at the Select 16 Festival. Chris was selected in all three years of his eligibility to represent Team New York City at the Empire State Games; in his first year he was a key contributor in the first win in team history and was the team's leading scorer in his final year.

Aside from his coaching duties, Chris is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the Huntington's Disease Society of America. During his time as the PR & Marketing Manager at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Chris founded the prestigious RMH-LI Cup junior hockey tournament. While coaching at Apple Core, he completed his coursework at Hofstra University where he earned his BA in Public Relations with a minor in Speech Communication and Rhetorical Studies. Chris currently resides in Astoria, NY with his wife and daughter.

ASSISTANT COACH - SPENCER VARNEY

Spencer Varney heads into his 4th season as Assistant Coach of the NYU hockey team. Coach Varney is the only person in NYU Hockey history to have won a National Championship as both a player (2015) and a coach (2017). Prior to joining the coaching staff, he was standout defenseman for the Violets from 2011-2015 where he served as an assistant captain for two years. In 2013 he was named to the ACHA Team East All-Star team. As a player he helped the Violets to the 2015 SECHL Championship and again in 2017 as an Assistant Coach. Prior to NYU he played junior hockey for the Potomac Patriots. 
 
Coach Varney graduated from NYU with a BA in 2014 and earned his MS from NYU the following year. In 2012 he was the recipient of the NYU McGhee Scholars Award for excellence in academics and commitment to community service. 

ASSISTANT COACH/ GOALTENDING COACH - BRYAN HOGAN

Bryan Hogan enters his 2nd season as an assistant coach and goaltending coach with NYU Men’s Hockey. Prior to this season, Hogan finished five seasons of professional hockey in ECHL, CHL, and Europe (Norway, Denmark, and Germany).

Before Hogan’s professional career, he attended the University of Michigan on full athletic scholarship playing four seasons with the Wolverines. At Michigan he ranks Second in career goals against average, second in career save percentage, seventh in career wins, tied for fifth in career shutouts. Hogan played two seasons of junior hockey with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

Hogan’s coaching experience stems from thirteen years of private and group goaltending instruction with High School, Junior, and Professional levels.

Originally from Highland, Michigan, Coach Hogan graduated from University of Michigan in 2011, and currently lives in New York City.

ASSISTANT COACH – SEAN ESCOBEDO

Sean Escobedo enters his first season as an assistant coach with the NYU Hockey team. Last season he was Associate Head Coach of the North Jersey Avalanche U15 team which finished with an impressive 59-18-2 record, AYHL Championship and National Tournament appearance. Sean also was named to the 2018-2019 AYHL All-Star game coaching staff.

 

Prior to coaching, Sean had a successful playing career as a defenseman in the professional, collegiate and junior ranks. Sean played 229 professional games in the AHL, ECHL and in Hungary. Prior to his professional career, Sean played 154 collegiate games for Boston University under legendary Head Coach Jack Parker. Sean was recruited to play for the Terriers by current New York Rangers Head Coach David Quinn who was an Assistant Coach at BU during Sean's career. Prior to BU he spent one season in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede and Tri-City Storm. Before being drafted #3 overall in the 2008 USHL Draft, Sean played for the NY Apple Core where he played for Coach Cosentino.

 

Sean currently works and lives in New York City.

 

GENERAL MANAGER - ELIZABETH MILLER

Elizabeth Miller is entering her 23rd season as General Manager of the Violets.  During her tenure, the Violets have made 9 ACHA National Championship Tournament Appearances, winning the National Championship Title in 2015 & 2017 and National Runner-Up in 2004.  During that time, the Violets also won the Super East Collegiate Hockey League (SECHL) Championship in 2004, 2015 & 2017.  As GM, Miller was named ACHA D2 Tournament Director for the 2002 Tournament (hosted by NYU) and the 2006 Tournament (hosted by the SECHL).  In her role as GM, Miller serves as the NYU Hockey Webmaster & Statistician, along with serving as the SECHL Statistician & Webmaster (2005-2017).

Miller is 1996 graduate of the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study.  During her undergraduate career, Miller was named a Sokol Scholar in Chemistry and twice received the NYU Presidential Service Award for her volunteerism and community service in her role as an ice hockey team manager from 1992-96.

Born in Michigan, Miller grew up all over the southeast, graduating with honors from the SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics.  She currently works for NYU as the Assistant to the Director of Athletics and resides in Brooklyn, NY.
