Coaching Bio and Program Development

Susquehanna University’s ice hockey program has a long history, dating back to the 1970’s. Drew Wright became the program’s first full-time head coach in the 2009-2010 season.  SU entered the ACHA initially as a D3 program during the 2010-2011 season, and later moved up to the D2 level of the Great Northeast Collegiate Hockey Conference for the 2011-2012 season, where the program presently competes.  During the 2013-2014 season, the team finished with an 8-10 league record in the highly competitive GNCHC, which is primarily comprised of schools significantly larger in enrollment than SU.

The 2016-2017 season marks Coach Wright’s eighth as Head Coach of the ice hockey program.  In addition to his current duties as head coach at SU, he serves as the club’s primary advisor. Prior to heading up the program at SU, he served for 10 years as a coach in the Susquehanna Valley Youth Hockey organization.  Coach Wright lives in Winfield, PA with his family and owns and operates his own business locally.  His son Nathan is a 2013 graduate of Susquehanna, where he played in net for the Crusaders for 4 years and currently is an assistant coach with the program.  Coach Wright also has a daughter currently attending Susquehanna, where she competes in cross-country and track.  Coach Wright holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and Business Administration (MBA) from Bucknell University.
