This week the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) will be announcing the recipients of the Player of Year Awards in each of the respective OHA leagues (ACH, OJHL, GOJHL and PJHL). Today we are pleased to announce that Holdyn Lansink of the Listowel Cyclones has been named the Junior B Player of the Year.

OHA JUNIOR B PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Holdyn Lansink, Listowel Cyclones (GOJHL)

Holdyn Lansink (Seaforth, Ont.) has played four seasons in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) and five seasons in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA). During his time in the OHA, Lansink has played four seasons with the GOJHL’s Listowel Cyclones and one season with the Wingham Ironmen.

The 6’1” 192 right winger is coming off of his best offensive season in junior hockey as he scored 46 goals, 65 assists and 111 points in 48 games with the Cyclones in the 2018-19 season. His point production placed him second in GOJHL scoring and he was seven points shy of Justin Kyle’s league-leading 118 points.

In 2018-19, Lansink and the Cyclones were the top team in the Midwestern Conference for the third consecutive season. Lansink led the Midwestern Conference in goals, assists and points and was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player at season’s end. Lansink was a big part the Cyclones who won the Sutherland Cup Championship in 2017-18 and he remained an important player for Listowel during the team’s 2019 playoff run.

Lansink played his minor hockey with the Huron Perth Lakers AAA and BCH Ice Dogs organizations before starting his Junior career with the Wingham Ironmen in Junior C in the 2014-15 season, scoring 47  points in 32 regular season games. He added eight points in 13 playoffs games with the Ironmen that season. After one season in the PJHL, Lansink made the Listowel Cyclones in 2015-16 and was there to stay. In his three seasons in Listowel, Lansink has accumulated 290 points in 194 regular season games and has collected 89 points in 62 GOJHL playoffs games.

While Lansink acknowledges his statistical performance was great this season, he says he takes just as much pride in being responsible defensively. He says he tries to play a well-rounded three-zone game and he and his linemates take pride in playing against other teams’ top lines.

“His continuous hard work on our team and in the community is a reflection of the person that he is. He has been an example of what our club represents and wants to portrait to the public and hockey fans,” said Listowel’s president, Wayne Long.

Off the ice, Lansink had an 82 per cent average in school and he intends to earn a teaching degree. Lansink has been active in his community having read to young students at a local school on his lunch breaks and attending bible school at a local church to play with the children there. Lansink has also volunteered with minor hockey including time at local tournaments and practices.

“I do my very best to give back to a community that has given so much. Making sure every single kid gets recognized at the rink or downtown. Working at the sports store is very nice because I get a lot of kids coming in to talk hockey and I love hearing what they have to say,” Lansink said on interacting with the community and working at Corley Source for Sports.

Reflecting on his time with Listowel, Lansink said he was on a Cyclones team that has been very successful and he has been a part of turning a small market around and into a contender.

“I look forward to living in the town (Listowel) and giving back to the organization one day,” Lansink said.

Other awards Lansink picked up this season include being named the recipient of Unique Cup as Top Scorer in Midwestern Conference; Selected as Midwestern Conference First-Team All-Star; Selected as Midwestern Conference Offensive Player of the Month for October, December and January.

The remaining 2018-19 OHA Awards winners will be announced this week and recipients will formally receive their Awards at the Cambridge-Kitchener Holiday Inn Convention Centre in Kitchener Sat. June 15, 2019.
