TECHNICAL DIRECTOR UPDATE - JUNE 2018

June 4 – The Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association (FMYSA) has named Macky Singh as its new technical director.

“Macky has demonstrated he knows how to work with players and coaches to build soccer programs in Canada, New Zealand and Malaysia,” said FMYSA president Will Gibson. “We’re pleased to secure somebody with his track record of success of developing players and coaches.”

Macky previously served as head coach of Olds College for the past four seasons. Prior to that, he worked as regional technical director for Soccer New Brunswick and the Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer team at St. Thomas University.

Macky previously worked in New Zealand, where he served as the head coach of the New Zealand Universities Women’s Soccer Team. Macky has also served as the U19 Women’s National Team Head Coach for the Football Association of Malaysia.

“I’m very happy to have this opportunity to develop soccer in the community of Fort McMurray,” said Macky, who will also serve as serve as the head coach for the Keyano Huskies men’s and women’s soccer teams. “My goal is to develop youth players for the association who will be able to play for Keyano.”

“Our partnership with Keyano has allowed us to bring somebody with a track record of building successful programs and teams to our community,” Gibson said. “Both the association and college are going to benefit.”

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR UPDATE - APRIL 2018

To the membership of the FMYSA,

Murad Sukru has left his role as the Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association’s technical director. The board of directors would like to thank Murad Sukru for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

The association’s commitment to an environment where all of our players can grow, develop and, above all, enjoy the sport has not changed. To support that goal, Shervin Hajami, our Development Management Director, and Jay Mutala, our Grassroots Director, will assume the technical director duties while the association and Keyano College begin searching for a permanent replacement for a joint position of FMYSA technical director/Keyano head soccer coach.

Shervin and Jay have overseen this season’s outdoor Fury travel team tryouts in Murad’s absence. They will continue to serve as board members but they will be compensated for fulfilling the TD’s duties. Shervin and Jay are longtime coaches who have established a track record of excellence in this community and at the provincial level in working with players and coaches in various age groups and skill levels. Both Sherv and Jay hold their provincial B license. They will do an outstanding job working with players, coaches and volunteers, from u-4 mini-Fury grassroots players starting out right up to our u-19 players pursuing scholarship opportunities with post-secondary institutions.

I would ask our membership for both patience and help as the association works through this transition. If you have the time, please consider volunteering with the FMYSA this season. It takes a lot of work to build an environment where our players can develop, grow and have fun. Shervin and Jay will provide technical leadership but they will need committed coaches, managers, equipment wranglers and parents to help them achieve our shared goals for every one of the 550 players registered to date for this outdoor season. The board will do what whatever we can to support the association’s volunteers.

Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours in soccer.

Will Gibson

Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association

June 30th - LETTER TO THE MEMBERSHIP

FMYSA Updates

Dear FMYSA Membership,

Thank-you for your patience during this time.  If you’re back in McMurray, Welcome Back.  If you’re still away, we hope you’re safe and happy wherever you may be!

Our Board of Directors finally had the chance to meet this past Wednesday, June 29th and discuss several topics:

SOCCER REFUNDS

  1. The FMYSA Office remains closed at this time due to smoke damage at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.  We are looking at a tentative re-opening date during the first week of August.  Due to this closure, we have limited access to files, information and equipment pertinent to processing refunds.
  2. The FMYSA is working with Intact Insurance on a Loss of Business Claim – We have submitted required preliminary information and are now waiting to hear back.
  3. Due to the above two factors, we are unable to issue any refunds prior to August 1st.  Once we are back in the office and have heard from the insurance company, we will not only begin processing refunds but will also reach out to families who are not in Fort McMurray to make sure we have updated details on where to send your refund.

SOCCER EQUIPMENT BAGS

For any parents who have an Outdoor 2016 Equipment bag – as drop-off at the soccer office is not possible right now, we are currently devising a plan for those to be returned.

Once we have dates/times/locations for bags to be returned, we’ll let you know!

SUMMER DROP-IN: FREE SOCCER PROGRAM OPEN TO ALL AGES

Our Technical Director is working on a Summer Drop-In schedule for all age groups to begin on Monday, July 18th.

Sessions will run Monday thru Thursday during the evening.  More details will be forwarded as soon as they are available.

SUMMER SOCCER CAMPS

  1. The FMYSA is looking to host a Welcome Back FMYSA Day on Saturday, August 6th.  This will be open to ALL PLAYERS and will be free to attend.  We want everyone to enjoy a fun-filled day with soccer camps, games, a BBQ, and more!  Details to be forwarded once confirmed.
  2. The Alberta Soccer Association will be running a soccer camp in late August.  Details TBD.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

As more details become available on the above topics, plus any others that may arise, we will keep you informed via email.  Updates can also be found on our Facebook Page (Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association) and on our website at www.fmyouthsoccer.com.

Lastly, the FMYSA would like to send a big thank-you to all the clubs that helped our teams and players during the evacuation.  If you know of such a club, please send us an email so we can be sure to include them!

Wishing all of our soccer families a safe return.

Regards,

Bill Carr
President
FMYSA

May 9th - LETTER FROM THE FMYSA PRESIDENT

LETTER FROM THE FMYSA PRESIDENT TO OUR MEMBERSHIP:

Dear Membership

We wish and hope that everyone is safe and surrounded by friends and family.

Due to the current crisis facing the city of Fort McMurray the FMYSA is unable to function as normal. Parents concerned over reimbursement of fees, I can reassure you that you will be reimbursed accordingly on a prorated basis for any sessions missed because of the Fires.

A final decision on how and when this will happen will be made once the BOD can get together as a team again.

If you are in the Calgary, Edmonton or Red Deer area please contact the local soccer association and explain that you are from Fort McMurray and would like your child to partake in their program. Our TD has spoken to these organizations and they are willing to place kids in their programs.

If your outside those areas you can contact the organizations yourself or pm our TD Ian Diaz and he can certainly help.

We thank you for patience and understanding on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

William Carr
President Fmysa
