The Goulbourn Basketball Association (GBA) Recreational Program is intended to expose children in the Goulbourn community to the game of basketball and provide them with a positive atmosphere to develop as players and people. Our group of volunteer coaches is dedicated to helping players improve their basketball fundamentals with an emphasis on FUN!
Recreational teams are selected with parity in mind – meaning the pool of available players are evaluated for various skills and distributed evenly across teams so that no one team is stronger than the other. We understand that friends may want to play together and we will do our best to accommodate friend requests.
The Recreational Program basketball schedules are determined based on our volunteer coaches' availability. During the registration process there is an option to identify a maximum of 2 evenings per week that a player is NOT available. Although we cannot guarantee it, we do our best to accommodate these types of requests when feasible. The Recreational season starts in late October and runs until the end of March. All divisions practice 1 evening per week, Monday to Friday. Small Ball and Novice levels practice for 1 hour and Atom, Bantam, Midget and Juvenile levels practice for 1.5 hours. Novice, Atom, Bantam and Midget teams play one game per week, on SATURDAYS, starting in November. Juvenile team games are once a week on a week night or Saturday. The Year End Tournament is held in March at the end of the basketball season.
The GBA participates in the West-End Basketball League (WEBL) which brings together eight area associations from west Ottawa and the south areas of Ottawa to have fun, develop sportsmanship and compete against each other in a positive setting.
