The GBA is looking for Referees for the upcoming Season!
If you are interested in joining a dynamic team, earning money and interacting with basketball players and coaches at all levels, consider becoming a Goulbourn Basketball Association referee.
You will join and be mentored by experienced referees and earn $12 to $24 per game based on your experience If you are recently retired or an adult you may wish to join the team, get exercise and support our community. If you are 14 or older it is an excellent way to meet new friends, earn money and gain work experience. If this type of opportunity interests you, please contact us!
There will be training both in class and on the floor in September/October 2016 time frame with regular season games taking place on Saturdays between mid November 2016 and early May 2017 in the west Ottawa area. Our refs range in age from 14 to over 55. New refs will be mentored by our more senior teenagers and adults. You will start at the most basic level of basketball refereeing and progress at your own speed.
We have grown since 2009 from 12 refs to over 50 refs with ample opportunity to progress. Some of our refs also play competitive ball and have other commitments and we work around their schedules.
Sign up for training and start the process and as a bonus should you be interested in becoming a OVBABO certified ref for Ontario we will cover the fees and adjust your pay to reflect your certification.
Hope to hear from you!
Cheers

Philosophy:
We are very fortunate to have a solid base of referees with at least two and three years' experience. We will concentrate on the fundamentals for new refs and fine-tune the more senior refs in judgement calls and positioning. For first time referees, we will start you at the novice level with a senior ref to support you at all games and you will be properly trained and prepped prior to your first game. We will continue to work closely with the coaches to reinforce the fundamentals of basketball by taking the time to explain calls to novice and atom level players, as we find that “instant feed-back” results in players quickly correcting their errors. The more senior levels of refs will concentrate on consistency of calls and the application of rules.
