2019 Pink in the Rink & Honouring our Captain

Sunday December 22nd, 2019

The Lindsay Muskies hosted their 2019 Pink in the Rink game on Sunday December 22nd, the team's last game before the holiday break. The team held a silent auction in the lobby of the Rec Complex, with all items being donated by local sponsors and organizations. The unique jerseys were also auctioned off to support the cause. Proceeds were all donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. For the ceremonial puck drop, the Muskies were very proud to welcome cancer survivor and hockey player Karter Robertson, as well as Alana Sisson of the Canadian Cancer Society. The team was pleased to present them each with jerseys prior to the game.

Additionally, Muskies captain and graduating player Noah Vandervinne was honoured before puck drop in what would be his final game with the team, as it was announced over the holiday break that Noah would be traded to Cobourg.

Muskies ‘draft’ new player and assistant coach for Game Day game in support of Five Counties Children’s Centre

LINDSAY – For years, family and staff of hockey player Ryan and hockey fan Kendra have been cheering on the duo. Now fans from across the region can do the same at the Lindsay Muskies’ game on Oct. 20.

The Muskies have drafted Ryan, 10, as the team’s seventh skater and Kendra, 14, as an assistant coach for the game. Both will represent Five Counties Children’s Centre, which is benefitting from some tickets sales and game-day activities at the Lindsay Recreation Complex at the game against the Wellington Dukes.

The afternoon game falls on a Sunday, giving families an activity to do together while helping out a good cause.

Ryan has Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy. When he came to Five Counties, he could not sit up on his own or open and close his hands. “He can walk, run, swing, and climb stairs,” Rachelle says with pride.

“Over the years, Ryan has overcome many barriers, beat the odds and surpass many challenges,” his mother Rachelle says. “He has a love for sports and plays hockey with Electric City Maroon and White Special Needs Hockey.”

Meanwhile, Kendra has a very rare chromosomal abnormality that causes global delays in her development, including her speech and her joints. While her upcoming knee surgery will keep her off the ice, she is a vocal sports fan who is looking forward to motivating fans and players from the bench.

“Five Counties has been such a positive influence on Kendra's life,” her mother Karyn says. “She has become more confident in her skills. She has found a place in this community that shows her that she belongs and is loved by all.”

The game begins at 1:30 p.m. with the singing of O Canada by Five Counties’ Speech and Language Pathologist Jacqui Alleyne. An hour before the game, fans can get their faces painted, play table-top hockey and play with giant Lego blocks. All proceeds from these activities will help more children like Ryan and Kendra to get life-changing therapies at Five Counties Children’s Centre.

Fans are welcome to skate with the team after the game.

Tickets for the game sell for $12 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students (of that cost, half of the money for tickets goes directly to Five Counties, if you buy them from the Centre). Reserve your tickets by contacting Fund Development Co-ordinator Lois Tuffin at 705-324-9320, ext. 5850 or ltuffin@fivecounties.on.ca.

Muskies Lend a Hand at Kinsmen Toy Mountain

Saturday December 8th, 2018

Each year the Kinsmen Club of Lindsay hosts their annual Toy Mountain event at Canadian Tire with 91.9 BOBFM. Several Muskies players were on hand this year to help out. Dean Buchholz, Logan Maunder, Josh Weber and Nick Lund were out bright and early with Muskies volunteer Craig Schroter, singing a few carols live on BOBFM. Matt King also appeared on the radio later in the day to chat with the hosts.

As the event wrapped up, several players helped to load up all the toy donations at Canadian Tire, as well as unload them at the Kinsmen's toy-sorting facility. They were also given a tour of the facility, as well as insight on how everything comes together behind the scenes, before families are able to arrive to pick out their toys.

In late-November the team hosted Bring-a-Toy night in which the generous donations from fans, players, families and staff resulted in two full barrels of toys! The Kinsmen Toy Drive helps countless families in the Kawartha Lakes every year by providing Christmas gifts to children. Helping at Winterfest Supporting Five Counties

Thursday November 22nd & Sunday November 25th, 2018

Several Muskies players were at the Lindsay Square Mall selling raffle tickets at the annual Winterfest event, supporting Five Counties Children's Centre. Those who purchased tickets became eligible to win one of several fun and beautifully decorated Christmas trees donated by local organizations, as well as several other prizes. The players enlisted in a friendly competition to see who could raise the most money for Five Counties by selling the most tickets.

After the event's final day, several players returned to lend a hand as the raffle winners began to arrive to claim their prizes. The players assisted with packing up all of the prize bundles and trees, before taking them out to vehicles. The team is looking forward to helping out again next season! For more information about Five Counties Children's Centre, what they do and how you can support the organization, please visit www.fivecounties.on.ca.

United Way Crayola Sale

Saturday October 13th, 2018

Several Muskies players were on hand to help out at the 30th Annual United Way Crayola Sale at the Lindsay Exhibition Building. They helped to sort and process items as the customers checked out. The annual two-day sale is always a massive hit, especially among parents and teachers. The sale also attracts attention from beyond the City of Kawartha Lakes, with many travelling hours in some cases take advantage of the deals.

All proceeds from the annual sale are donated to the United Way, providing support for the community. This year, over $42,000 was raised for the cause, and in total over $1 million has been donated. For more information on the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes, please visit ckl-unitedway.ca.
