About Rochester College Hockey
In the spring of 2006, an idea to begin an ice hockey program at Rochester College took root in a small diner just off the campus of Northern Michigan University. Six years later, that small idea born out of a conversation between two traveling admissions recruiters became a reality as Rochester College put its first hockey team on the ice in August of 2013 as a Division 1 member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).
The Warriors began competing in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) during the 2015-2016 season alongside fellow ACHA Division 1 members: Oakland University, Adrian College, University of Michigan Dearborn, Davenport University, Kent State University, Eastern Michigan University and Western Michigan University. The GLCHL has since expanded to include Calvin College starting in the Fall of 2017.
The Warriors play between 35-40 regular season games, beginning play in September and ending in late February. The top 20 teams are invited to the ACHA National Tournament, which takes place during the beginning of March. The majority of the regular season games take place on Fridays and Saturdays, with a few weekday and Sunday games sprinkled in. The Warriors play at Suburban Ice Macomb, after spending their first two seasons at Fraser Hockeyland.
The Rochester College Hockey program is under the oversight of Rochester College's Athletic Department. All players have the option of receiving one academic credit hour in the Fall semester for participating in hockey. This credit is applied towards the student’s physical education requirement and/or elective credit. All players also receive a membership to Retro Fitness, in downtown Rochester Hills, MI.
