Beantown Summer Classic
What is the Beantown Summer Classic?
The Beantown Summer Classic is a six day event taking place each August (2016 dates: August 6-10). The tournament features three boys divisions. This is an individual entry event. There are tryouts for this event in addition to the players who are pre-selected through our invite process.
Divisions
Pro Division (Aug 7-10)
Only players that are from ’96-’00 birth years will qualify to be selected into the top summer showcase of its kind. This division will consist of eight teams. Each team will carry 10 forwards, 6 defenseman and 2 goalies. Each team will practice on the morning of their first day then play four games versus some of the other seven teams in the showcase, followed by a fifth game in which the teams will be reseeded. Each team will be coached by a current NHL scout. Each game will consist of two 25 minute halves. Player’s need to be in Marlboro at approximately 11am on the 7th. Last game on the 10th will end at 3pm.
Futures Division (Aug 8-10)
This division will be for players between the three birth years below the pro division (’99-’01). This division will consist of six teams. Each team will carry 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies. Each team will play three games against some of the other five teams in the division, followed by a fourth game, in which the teams will be reseed eventually leading to a champion. Each team will be coached by a current NHL scout. Each game will consist of two 25 minute halves. Player’s need to be in Marlboro at approximately 1pm on the 8th. Last game on the 10th will end at 3pm.
Prospects Division (Aug 6-8)
This division will feature three age groups (’02/’03/’04/’05). Each age group will consist of two teams. Each team will carry 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies. Each team will have three practices and play a three games versus the other team in their age level. Each game will consist of two 25 minute halves. Teams will be coached by a current Division 1 coach or NHL scout. The on ice training sessions will be led by D-1 college coaches or NHL scouts/staff. In the past three years we have had coaches from Boston College, Northeastern, UNH, Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, Quinnipiac as well as staff from the Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators working on ice with the players putting them through practice and training sessions. Player’s need to be in Marlboro at approximately 1:00pm on the 6th. Last game on the 8th will end at 5pm.
Selection process for the Beantown Summer Classic
Pre-Selection
A players that doesn’t have to tryout, either are on NHL Central Scouting’s list, have a Division I college offer or deal in places, or have been recommended to us by and NHL scout or a D-1 college scout.
Tryout Selection
We want to leave no stone unturned so we offer multiple locations for an evaluation. We offer this to players of who fit into our Pro and Futures divisions. There is not tryouts for the Prospects division.
