The PJHL Orr Division is named after Jim Orr, a true friend to Junior Hockey.
Jim Orr's OHA career began as an official in the OHA in 1967. For eight seasons Jim worked not just in the association but in other leagues as well. He was given the “Local Linesman” duties in Lakefield during their junior D games.
Jim took on an active role with Oldtimer’s Hockey shortly after finishing up his duties as an official. In 1975 he was named as the first Referee-In-Chief of the Canadian Oldtimer’s Hockey Association which was founded in Peterborough. Holding this duty for six years, Jim organized officials for Oldtimer’s Hockey Tournaments on a local, regional, national and international basis. In 1987 he was inducted into the into the International Oldtimer’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Following the end of his officiating career in the OHA in 1975, Jim took on an active role as team General Manager for the then Junior B Peterborough Lumber Kings and later the Roadrunners .Throughout Ownership and major sponsorship changes, he managed to hold his General Manager’s title for 14 seasons.
Still wanting to be a part of the game he loved so much, Jim took over the duties as the League Convenor of the Central Junior C Hockey League in 1990, operating this league with the utmost class and integrity while representing the OHA with class and pride each and every night.
Jim was happily married to the love of his life Roberta for over 55 years and Jim credited her for putting up with his other love, hockey. Together, they raised 5 children together and enjoyed spending time with their 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Sadly, Jim passed away peacefully at his residence on March 20, 2016 in his 79th year. Many people say that Jim was one of the good guys.
