You asked, we answered...

  1. How long does the season run?
A: The Barrie Minor Baseball House League season runs from Opening Day in mid-May until the last week of August. We also hold a Championship Day on the first Saturday after Labour Day in September.

  2. What does the registration fee cover?
A: The base registration fee covers the following:
    - Field costs paid to the City of Barrie
    - Lighting costs (if applicable) paid to the City of Barrie
Uniforms; including a jersey, pants and a hat (BlastBall includes a t-shirt and hat)
    Umpires fees (if applicable)
Equipment for the team, including baseballs, bats, bases and catcher's gear
    Team and individual pictures
End of year awards (if applicable)
    Player & Coach Insurance

  3. Where are the games played?
    A:
Barrie Minor Baseball House League games are played at a few different locations. Games are played at the Barrie Sports Complex, East Bayfield Park, Painswick Field, Lennox Park, Marsellus Park & Bear Creek Park. For detailed locations of each park please check the Diamonds link on the left hand menu or on the home page.

  4. What time do House League games begin?
A: Most games for BlastBall, Jr. T-Ball, T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Rookie Ball, Mosquito and Peewee begin at 6:30 p.m. The occasional game may be played later. Bantam & Midget game times vary based on South Simcoe Baseball scheduling.

  5. What does my child need to play?
A: Your child requires a baseball glove, running shoes or baseball cleats (no metal spikes) a baseball helmet, a helmet face cage (T-Ball - Peewee only) and protective athletic support. For BlastBall your child should wear some type of long athletic pants (no shorts please).

  6. I'm interested in coaching a House League team. How do I apply?
A: All coaches must submit a completed Coaches Form as well as a valid Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening. All information can be submitted to the House League Coaches Committee (details are on the Coaches Form).

  7. I am unable to make a full-time commitment to coach a team because I work shifts... travel for business... etc. How can I still help?
A: We understand everyone's availability is different surrounding their volunteering as a coach. If you are unable to be the head coach due to potential scheduling conflicts, you can still help as an assistant coach. Please indicate your interest on the registration form and submit a Coaches Form.

  8. What is BlastBall?
A: BlastBall is a unique introduction to baseball for 4-year-old players. The emphasis of the game is fun yet provides the basic skills required to play baseball. Players learn to hit the ball off of a tee, field a hit ball and throw the ball. Players play in groups of about 6 players. Each week the session will run 1 hour.

  9. What is Jr. T-Ball?
A: Jr. T-Ball is a hybrid of the fundamental skills and games played in BlastBall and more traditional games played in T-Ball. Players will rotate between a practice station and 2 mini game stations each week.

  10. What is T-Ball?
A: T-Ball is probably a lot like you remember as a kid. Teams play a game where the batter hits off a tee and fielders attempt to throw or tag runners out. Game scores and standings are not kept. The intention is for the players to have fun and enjoy the game in a non-competitive environment.

  11. What is Coach Pitch?
Coach Pitch is very similar to T-Ball except the coach "pitches" to the batter. A coach from your child's own team will stand near the traditional pitching position and throw an underhand "pitch" to the batter. Each batter is allowed a pre-determined number of pitches and if unsucessful, a tee may be used to allow the player to put the ball in play. Most other T-Ball rules remain the same. Game scores and standings are not kept.

  12. What is Rookie Ball?
A: Rookie Ball involves the use of a pitching machine in place of a pitcher. Batters are allowed up to 5 pitches to put a ball in play. Most other baseball rules are used.

  13. What is Mosquito?
A: Mosquito is the first year a player from the opposite team will pitch to a batter. Most other baseball rules are used.

  14. Can my son/daughter play in a higher age category?
A: Barrie Minor Baseball does not permit players to advance to higher age categories in House League. House League baseball is designed to be a fun, educational and competition-free environment.
