2024 Coaching Staff

Head Coach - Tyler LeBrun:

2024 will be Head Coach Tyler LeBrun's 6th season at the helm for the Miners.

Prior to managing the Mat-Su Miners in 2019, LeBrun was an assistant on the 2018 ABL champion Miner team. During that season, Tyler was directing the defense, scouting reports, and game plans. During that season, the Miners not only set new highs in offensive numbers, they won their third consecutive ABL championship. 

During the non-summer months, LeBrun is the Assistant Head Coach at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been at his alma mater for 10 seasons now. During that time, he has had many different roles. Currently, he runs the Vikings offense and infield defense. While at Sunnyslope, LeBrun has had over 25 players go on to play college baseball, including 5 Division I players. He was a state champion his first year as an assistant (2012) and followed that up with a runner up in 2013. 

LeBrun began his college baseball career at South Mountain Community College. He finished at the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business with a minor in Sports Management. 

Tyler is the son of Mark and Debbie LeBrun. He has 1 older sister, Nicole, who played college softball in Arizona. He also has 2 younger brothers, Cory and Calvin,  whom both played Division I baseball at Gonzaga University. Youngest brother Calvin played for the Mat-Su Miners for 2 summers (2015/2017) and was voted to the Mat-Su Miners All-Decade Team. Ty currently resides in Phoenix, AZ with his wife, Ashley. 

 

Pitching Coach - Steve Hecker:

Coach Hecker begins his 2nd year as pitching coach for the Mat-Su Miners.  Last year, the Miners pitching staff led the Alaska Baseball league in almost all major statistical categories.  He comes to us from Clear Falls High School (Houston, TX) where he serves as the pitching coach and teaches special education.  Prior to becoming a high school baseball coach, Hecker played in the minor leagues for 7 seasons as a right-handed pitcher. Coach Hecker’s professional baseball career began June 20th, 2001, when he first signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.  His seven-year minor league career peaked at AAA included stints in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and independent baseball (Joliet Jackhammers).  This followed his collegiate experience at University of Memphis and Illinois State University where he is listed on the all-time single season wins list at 9.  During that time, he played for the Waterloo Bucks of the Northwoods Collegiate Wood Bat Summer League and is the all-time career saves leader at 24.  This two-time all-star was inducted to the Waterloo Bucks Hall of Fame in 2006, Named to the All-Decade team 2010, and voted to the 20th season Fan favorite team. Ultimately, his career ended due to injury. Since that time, he has served as head and/or assistant coach for the last 17 years at prominent Texas high schools such as: Galveston Ball, Friendswood, Pearland, Brenham, and Clear Falls High School. Coach Hecker has mentored 60+ players who have gone on to play college baseball and 9 players drafted in the MLB first year player draft.  Their respective draft rounds are as follows: 2nd (2), 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 28th, 29th, 31st + 1 free agent signee.  Married to his wife Jessica, they have two boys Jackson 14 and Tyler 12. 

 

Assistant Coach - Ronnie Deck:

This will be Ronnie's 1st year as assistant coach for the Mat-Su Miners. His biography with baseball experience:

College Baseball:     Oklahoma Christian University (Oklahoma City, OK) – 1998. All-Sooner Athletic Conference Catcher,
1997 and 1998. GTE Academic All-American. Hit .370 with 8 homers in 2 seasons as a starter at OC, hit
.392 as a junior in 1997 which was top 5 in the conference. Graduated with a B.A. in Journalism with a
Minor in Spanish.

Professional Baseball Player:    7-year career as a player in professional baseball (1999-2005), mostly as a Catcher. Played 5 different
levels for the Tampa Bay Rays. Reached Double-A (Orlando) in 2003. Career backup C. Saw time in
professional baseball at 1B, OF and on the mound. Minor league teammates included future big leaguers
BJ Upton, Shawn Riggans, James Shields, Elliott Johnson, Jonny Gomes, Jorge Cantu, Jason Hammel and
Ryan Dorsey -- current North Texas Amateur Scouting Supervisor for the Chicago White Sox.

2nd Assistant Coach - Tyler Bosetti:

This will be Tyler's 1st year as 2nd Assistant Coach with the Mat-Su Miners. Tyler is a Mat-Su Miner Alumni from 2018 and his baseball career experience is as follows:
