Seagulls Baseball Academy

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HOW LONG WILL EACH SEASON BE?

The Seagulls Baseball Academy will have two seasons each year; Fall and Spring/Summer. Each age group will have a team during the following times:

Fall: Middle of August until Late November (before Thanksgiving)

Spring/Summer: Middle of January until Middle of July

Q: WHERE AND HOW OFTEN DO THE SEAGULLS PRACTICE?

Each age group of Seagulls Baseball Academy will have two (2) practices per week and one (1) speed & agility training class per week throughout each specific season. Practices will usually be in San Bruno at San Bruno Park or Lions Field. There will be occasional practices at other facilities throughout the Peninsula.

The Seagulls Baseball Academy will also offer drop-in hitting times throughout the Fall at different Indoor Facilities or Lions Field Batting Cages in San Bruno. This will be used for players to get additional work in with our coaches during each season.

Q: HOW MANY TOURNAMENTS & WHERE WILL THEY BE?

Each age group will play between 5-7 tournaments in the Fall and 9-11 tournaments in the Spring/Summer. Tournaments will be twice per month and will be anywhere from 2-4 games depending on the success of each team.

Tournament locations will vary each time, with the majority of the tournaments being in Hayward, Fremont, Sunnyvale & Manteca. Each age group will also attend a tournament out of the area at least once per season.

Q: WHO ARE THE COACHES & WHAT IS THEIR EXPERIENCE?

All of our Seagulls Baseball Academy directors and coaches are former collegiate baseball players or Professional scouts. The majority of them have played for the San Francisco Seagulls summer collegiate team and started their coaching career after they were done playing.

Each age group will have a Head Coach and a Assistant Coach. All of our coaches are passionate about getting the most out of each and every player. The responsibility of the coaching staff will be to create a friendly environment that helps teach the game of baseball to each player.

Our Academy will also have a Director of Player Development Hitting & Pitching Instructor that will rover around to different practices throughout each season to help further develop each player in their desired skill set.

IS THERE A MINIMUM PLAYING TIME REQUIREMENT?

Youth Travel Baseball is different than playing for your local city league. There is no minimum playing time rules. however as an Academy our primary goal is to help each player grow and develop as an individual while being in a team environment. The only way this can be obtained is by preparation at practice and opportunity in the game.

We believe that playing time is earned and not guaranteed. Playing time will not be distributed evenly throughout the season, however the Seagulls Baseball Academy will do their best to make sure every member of each team is getting a fair opportunity to work on their skills in each tournament.

Q: HOW MANY KIDS WILL THERE BE ON EACH TEAM?

Our primary goal is for each player to play, and play a lot. To achieve this, we aren't going to stockpile players for each age group. Each roster will be comprised of up to 13 tournament players at that specific age group. Each age group can have up to six (6) practice players on their roster.

We ask that you let us know at least four weeks in advance if your child isn't able to attend a tournament.

Q: IS THERE A PENALTY FOR MISSING TEAM EVENTS?

We build our rosters with the understanding that each player will be fully available for all practices and tournaments. However, we understand that our athletes play multiple sports and there could be a conflict from time to time. We ask that conflicts are minimal and that your families No. 1 priority is Seagulls Baseball Academy.

Communication is key in putting together a schedule that works for the player and the Academy. Last second cancellations of practice and games will not be tolerated. Our policy is that we are given at least 48 hour notice on missing a practice and two weeks notice on missing a tournament/game. Also, if you will be missing practices/games because of a planned vacation, we ask that you let us know at least two weeks in advance.

If your athlete is a constant abuser they will subject to suspension from the team and will be reconsidered for continued involvement in the Seagulls Baseball Academy.

Q: CAN MY CHILD BE REMOVED FOR A "BETTER" PLAYER?

No. During each specific season our roster is set. It is our job to help your child learn as a baseball player. We are committed to them throughout the season and won't replace them with someone else because of poor performance.

The only way your child can be removed from the Academy during a specific season is for behavioral issues, lack of commitment or breaking our Code of Conduct.

After the season is complete, we will re-evaluate each players performance and make a decision regarding their role during the upcoming season.
