Seagulls 13u Santa Cruz Tournament Recap
For the third time in four tournaments the 13u Seagulls went 2-0 in Pool Play to start the tournament. This time, the Seagulls upended the Salinas Valley Aces 11-0 and the Kali Bees 4-3 to earn the No. 2 seed on Sunday. In the semi-finals, the Gulls fell behind early only to drop an 8-4 decision to Swagger Athletics. Overall the Gulls finished 2-1 in the tournament and currently have a 9-6-1 overall record this Fall.
Game 1: Seagulls Baseball Academy 11 - Salinas Valley Aces 0
- Jake Brewer & Josh Violanti combined to throw a 3-hit shutout in the win. Brewer picked up the win, allowing just 1 hit over three frames. Violanti earned the save throwing two shutout innings.
- The offense pounded out 9 hits in the win. They also took advantage of 5 Salinas errors. Mateo Alves, Ryan Bower & Brewer all had 2 hits.
- Evan Daly delivered the big blow with a 2-out, 3 RBI triple to open up the flood gates in the 1st inning.
Game 2: Seagulls Baseball Academy 4 - Kali Bees 3
- Sebastian Conclara & Cyrus Valle led the offense with 2-hits each. Conclara also drove in 1 run and scored one as well.
- Andrew Rocha, Nick Alas, Josh Violanti & Jake Brewer each hat a hit in the win.
- On the mound, Ryan Bower went 3 strong innings to earn the win. He struck out 5 Kali Bees hitters. Timmy Jang picked up the save with 2 shutout innings.
Game 3: Swagger Athletics 8 - Seagulls Baseball Academy 4
- Swagger jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the 2nd inning and the Gulls had to play catch-up throughout.
- Mateo Alves & Dante Venturi pitched well in relief to keep the game within reach as the offense chipped away.
- Offensively, six different (Alas, Alves, Brewer, Jang, Bower & Jacob Reeder) Seagulls had hits in the loss.
- In the loss the team showed a lot of fight, as the tying run was at the plate with 1-out in the bottom of the last inning.
